TALE OF THE TAPE: In total yards, Notre Dame outgained Central Carolina, 350-278. NDC's average gain per play was 4.6 yards to the Warriors' 3.4. … The Falcons picked up 108 yards on the ground (37 carries, 2.9 YPC) and 242 yards in the air (22-of-39). The Warriors had 21 rushing yards on 25 attempts (0.8); CCSA finished the game with 217 passing yards (20-of-46). … NDC picked up 17 first downs in the game; Central Carolina had 11. … The Falcons won the time-of-possession battle, 32:30 to 27:30. The Falcons ran 76 plays, to the Warriors' 71. … On third-down conversions, NDC was 3-of-16. CCSA was 5-of-17 (CCSA was also 0-for-5 on fourth-down attempts). … Notre Dame was penalized five times for 48 yards, Central Carolina one for three. … Defensively, NDC garnered 62 tackles - including seven for a loss and one sack. Central Carolina had 56 tackles - eight for a loss and one sack. Warrior defenders forced three fumbles and intercepted two passes.
HIGH-FLYIN': Through seven games, Notre Dame has now outscored their opponents, 272-102. NDC's offense is averaging 38.9 points per game.
TOUCHDOWN CLUB: #Trevor Smith# joined the club with a pair of TD catches in Sunday's game. Eleven different Falcons have combined to score 39 touchdowns on the season - 17 rushing, 18 passing, two via special teams and two by the defense. … The Blue & White have scored 21 touchdowns on plays 25 yards or longer. … Quarterback #Kyle Shaffer# tossed three TDs Sunday and has thrown 11 touchdown strikes over the Falcons' past three games. Shaffer added his first rushing TD of the season in the win over the Warriors.
LESS LAUNDRY: In their previous two games (Oct. 11 at Wooster and Oct. 19 at Ashland), Notre Dame was whistled for 23 penalties totaling 247 yards. On Sunday against Central Carolina, the Falcons committed five penalties for 48 yards.
OFFENSIVE NOTES
• NDC's offense again showed balance, with play calls split nearly 50-50- between runs and passes - the Falcons ran 37 running plays and 39 passing plays. … Over the last three weeks, NDC has run 113 running plays and 115 passing plays.
• Wide receiver #Marlon Gillis# kept his touchdown streak alive - the talented freshman has scored at least one touchdown in each of the Falcons' last five games. Over the last three weeks, the 6-foot-2 Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native has 19 catches for 332 yards and six TDs.
• Notre Dame struggled on third downs, converting just three of 16 attempts. The Falcons did, however, make good on three of four fourth-down attempts.
• Falcon running backs accounted for seven receptions. #Karl Jean# had three catches for 16 yards. … Overall, Shaffer and backup #Derrick Paster# spread receptions among seven players. Receivers #Justin Kollie# and
Trevor Smith figured prominently in the Blue & White attack. Kollie caught six passes and Smith had three, including two TDs.
• In the middle of the second half, NDC had back-to-back 12-play drives. The first of those drives ended in a missed #Andy Carr# field goal; the second resulted in a touchdown (Shaffer to Smith).
DEFENSIVE NOTES
• NDC held Central Carolina to a 43.5 percent (20-for-46) mark on pass defense. Over their last three games, the Falcons have held opponents to a 41.5 percent (54-of-130) completion percentage.
• In allowing just 66 second-half yards of offense to the Warriors, Notre Dame gave the Falcon offense an average starting field position at their own 48-yard line. NDC also controlled the clock for 20:35 in the second half.
• Three Falcon players (#Gary Briggs#, #Shane Friend# and #Derrick Smith#) recorded double figures in tackles. Smith, a sophomore transfer from Iowa and a product of Glenville HS (Cleveland), has 19 tackles in NDC's last two games.
• The Blue & White allowed the Warriors just 21 yards of rushing offense. NDC has yielded just 13 rushing yards over their last two games.
SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES
• Andy Carr averaged 32.0 yards on five punts, putting two inside the 20. In the placekicking department, Carr had an extra point blocked as well as a 35-yard field goal attempt.
• In the first quarter, #Ricky Stevens# and #Freddie Lenix# executed a successful reverse on a kickoff return, resulting in a 44-yard return. Lenix finished the game with 93 kick-return yards in two attempts.
MISCELLANOUS
• The attendance at Sunday's game was 489. Notre Dame has now hosted three home games at Korb Field, averaging 710 fans per.
UP NEXT: The Blue & White will reprise their game against Central Carolina, when the Warriors come back to Cleveland for a return engagement with the Falcons on Nov. 8. NDC is idle the weekend of Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
