ANGOLA, Ind. – Notre Dame College traveled to Trine University, on Saturday, and set another program-record by putting 249.900 on the scoreboard. The Falcons defeated both Trine (246.359) and Adrian College (131.400) to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Notre Dame increased its scores in nearly every event from its meet on March 3, while maintaining the same score in the Tumbling Event.
A slight improvement in every heat of the Compulsory Event led to a score of 35.05, which was enough to lead Trine by 3.7. The Falcons posted a 9.3, out of 10, in the Pyramid Heat and then had a 9.45 in the Toss Heat.
In the Acro Event, NDC improved its 5-element score from 7.15, on March 3, to 8.3, on Saturday night. The scores in the 6-element (7.65) and 7-element (8.5) both improved as NDC posted a program-high 24.45 at the end of the event.
Notre Dame still held a slight advantage over Trine, but the Storm would close the gap a bit in the Pyramid Event. The Falcons posted a 27.1, just 1.5 off of their start value, after scoring over nine points in both the Synchronized and Open heats. Trine totaled 28.4, 1.3 off of its start value.
At halftime, the Falcons led Trine, 86.6-85.5. NDC would step up and outscore TU, 163.300-160.855 in the second half, thanks to a strong team event.
In the Toss Event, Notre Dame improved by almost a full point from the last meet. When the scores were read, both NDC and Trine finished with a total of 25.9.
Notre Dame had another 47.3 in the Tumbling Event, highlighted by an 8.4 in the Aerial Pass, with a start value of 8.85, and an 8.95 in the Open Pass, with a start value of 9.1. On the other side, Trine kept things interesting by posting a 47.425.
The Falcons were shining in the team event and were awarded with a program-record 90.10 to secure the victory over Trine and a sweep of the tri-meet.
NDC will get back to conference competition next week, taking on Glenville State University at home, on March 21 at 6 p.m.
