FAIRMONT, W.Va. – In just its second season as a program, Notre Dame College acrobatics & tumbling is walking away with a Mountain East Conference trophy after taking first place in an event final, on Saturday. The Falcons posted a 7.95 in the Trio Tumbling event and earned the top spot.
Prior to the competition,
Bailey Hebert was given her All-MEC First Team award and head coach
Nikki Pizzi took the Coach of the Year trophy.
This season, NDC had a start value of 9.1 in the Trio Pass, and that remained the same in the final. Notre Dame went up against Frostburg State University and host Fairmont State University with a trio of
Kati Rice,
Sydney Gibson and
Amelia Gauvin.
Jenna Chrzanowski was a part of this heat for the Falcons all season, along with Rice and Gibson, but had a late-season injury.
Notre Dame posted a 7.950, winning by 0.05, as both Frostburg and Fairmont finished with a 7.900.
"I'm so proud of the Trio for pulling out the first conference title for NDC A&T," Pizzi said. "We were very lucky to make it and have the start value we did. The girls executed well and it was so much fun to be surrounded by the support of the conference."
Rice then competed in the Open Tumbling event final and scored an 8.825. She took second place as Fairmont State's Open Pass was given a 9.775.
"It was a great way to end this chapter of all of our lives and I'm so excited to see what the future holds for all of these amazing athletes! I'd like to give a huge thank you and shoutout the MEC coaches for guiding me and these young women along this journey," Pizzi mentioned. "I've been so blessed to be a part of the MEC these last three years. Go Falcons!"
