Notre Dame wrestling to honor seniors before taking on Ashland, Baldwin Wallace

This Week: Notre Dame College will battle Ashland University and Baldwin Wallace University, on Feb. 9, in the Falcons' final regular season home meet. The tri-match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. And on Feb. 11, the Falcons will go down the street to the JCU Open.
 
Senior Day: Prior to taking the mat on Friday, the Falcons will celebrate La'Ron Parks, Hank Carey, Matthew Kaufmann, Alec Hall, Kyle Richards and Thomas Schmitt for their work and commitment to the program.

Records: Notre Dame is 1-11 in dual meets this season, while Ashland is 3-9 and Baldwin Wallace holds a record of 14-2.

Coaches Corner: Jordon Tague is in his second season leading NDC. Colt Sponseller is in his fourth season as the leader of the Ashland program and Jamie Gibbs is in year 13 at Baldwin Wallce.

Rankings: In the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Team Rankings, Ashland is tied for 19th in Division II, with 23 points. Baldwin Wallace is No. 6 in the NWCA Division III top 25 poll.

In the NWCA individual rankings, Ashland's Drew Wiechers is No. 9 at 157 lbs., Nate Barrett ranks 10th at 174 and Daniel Beemer is second at 184. In the D3 individual rankings, Jaden Hinton is second in the nation at 133, Michael Petrella is No. 2 at 157, Andrew Supers ranks 13th at 165 and Doug Byrne is fourth at heavyweight.
 
Series History: NDC has a 9-1 record against Ashland, last hosting the Eagles in a dual in Jan. 2020. The Falcons and Eagles squared off in Ashland, last season, with AU taking the win, 31-14. Notre Dame has never faced Baldwin Wallace.
 
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame picked up its first dual victory on Jan. 18, with a 28-24 win over No. 16 Grand Valley State. The Falcons then placed fifth at the Mountain East Conference Tournament on Jan. 27. La'Ron Parks took second at the MEC Championships at heavyweight. He defeated Glenville State's Gavin Shamblin by decision in the semifinals and then lost to top seed Francesco Borsellino (West Liberty) in the finals. Matthew Kaufmann (157) also advanced to the finals, going 2-1 on the day, with a tech fall victory and a pin, before finishing second. Alec Hall went 3-1 to take third place at 174. After losing in the semifinals, he battled back and took down Fairmont State's Evan Thompson with a pin in the third-place match.
