Noting the Falcons:Â
La'Ron Parks has been placed in a first round matchup against Tyler Doyle, of Colorado Mesa. The Falcons' grappler, who has a record of 29-6, will have to wrestle at least twice in the Friday morning session, even with a victory in round one. The winner of the Parks-Doyle matchup will face Luke Tweeton, who is ranked seventh in the country, with a chance of advancing to the Quarterfinals. Glenville State's Gavin Shamblin and Pitt-Johnstown's No. 2 ranked Isaiah Vance will wrestle for the other spot in the Quarterfinal on that side of the bracket.
Â
In the regional tournament, Parks had several impressive performances at heavyweight. After receiving a bye in round one, the senior moved past Lake Erie's Dylan Norris with a 10-3 decision in the quarterfinal. A close 4-1 match in the semifinal went to Shamblin in sudden victory. But, Parks did not skip a beat in the consolation bracket, as he pinned Giulian Bodiu (Findlay), in less than two minutes. The Euclid, Ohio native then faced Tiffin's Clayton Ours in the Third Place Match. Parks built a steady lead and then, at the 4:50-mark in the match, he pinned Ours to punch his ticket to the national tournament.
Â
This will be the third consecutive year that Parks has qualified for the national tournament. Last season, he defeated Simon-Fraser's Taniela Feliciano-Takafua in round one of the consolation bracket.
