SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College went up against No. 19 ranked Ashland University and No. 6 Baldwin Wallace University, in the Murphy Gym, on Friday night.
 
Prior to the two duals, La'Ron Parks, Hank Carey, Matthew Kaufmann, Alec Hall, Kyle Richards and Thomas Schmitt walked across the mat as they were recognized on Senior Day.
 
Kaufmann went to work right away in his first matchup at 157 lbs., against Ashland's Evan Davis. The Falcons' senior had an early takedown and carried a 3-1 lead into the second period. He continued to be active and started to wear down Ashland's grappler, before getting another takedown in the third period to seal the win of an 8-3 decision.
 
NDC's Marvelous Rutledge was locked in a close battle with Ashland's Peyton Lemon, at 197. Trailing 1-0, Rutledge used an escape to tie the match in the third and send it to Sudden Victory. Lemon finished things off with a winning takedown.
 
The Falcons' heavyweight, La'Ron Parks, went 2-0 on the day, but he only led by one, late in the second period over Ashland's Wyatt Bailey. A takedown with a few seconds left on the clock gave Parks a 4-1 lead. He held that lead throughout the third period to get the win.
 
Parks then beat Baldwin Wallace's Angelo Camargo, with a strong third period. The Euclid, Ohio native only led 3-1 through two, before getting two takedowns in the third period to win by a score of 10-3.
 
Rutledge was able to get back in the win column in a matchup against Baldwin Wallace's Luke Hopkins. He led 6-1 after three minutes and continued to add on. Using four takedowns, Rutledge won the bout, 13-7.
 
A few wrestlers from Notre Dame will head to the JCU Open, on Feb. 11, before the team competes at the Regional Championship, on March 2.
