SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – To start its second season as a program, Notre Dame College ran onto the home mat against No. 12 ranked Frostburg State University, on Saturday. NDC was prepared to begin the season and posted a program record score of 233.685 against the defending Mountain East Conference champion Bobcats.
Right out of the gate to start this meet, Notre Dame had a solid Compulsory Event. The Falcons hit 9.40 in the Pyramid Heat and 9.30 in the Toss Heat, as the entire opening event had a start value of 10. In the Acro Event, NDC totaled 21.90 out of 27.15.
The Falcons continued to improve as the meet went on. They posted an 8.30 out of 9.50 in the Inversion Pyramid Heat and had an 8.60 out of 9.60 in the Open Pyramid Heat. The home team was off of its start value by just 3.75 points in the Pyramid Event.
In the Toss Event, NDC was given a 7.7 out of 8.8 in the 450 Salto Heat and then an 8.35 out of 9.00 in the Open Heat. In that event, NDC totaled 23.55, which was 3.25 away from the start value.
The Falcons were also extremely crisp in the Tumbling Event, outscoring Frostburg State in a couple heats. The Falcons had a 6.80 out of 7.50 in the Duo Pass. And then in both the Trio Pass (8.25 out of 9.1) and in the Quad Pass (7.5 out of 8.5), Notre Dame earned a higher score than the Bobcats.
Sydney Gibson then put together a pass of 8.75 in the 6-element before
Kati Rice totaled 8.85 in the Open Pass. Both of those individual passes had a start value of 9.1.
Notre Dame moved smoothly through the Team Event, grabbing a total of 84.81, just 5.01 behind Frostburg's score.
FSU would end the day with a total of 259.545.
Last season, the Falcons only reached the 200-point mark, once.
On Feb. 16, Notre Dame will be in West Liberty to take on the Hilltoppers and West Virginia State in a tri-match. The action begins at 6 p.m.
