Falcons travel to No. 21 Frostburg State on Sunday

This Week: The Notre Dame College women's soccer team travels to Frostburg State University on Sunday Sept. 10 with kickoff slated for 4 p.m.
 
Records:  NDC begins the week at 0-0-2, while FSU is currently 2-0.
 
Coaches Corner: Mike Shiels headlines the Notre Dame women's soccer program for his 21st season at the helm. Shiels carries a 194-126-36 career record, to go along with three MEC Tournament championships and four MEC Coach of the Year honors. Brian Parker is the head coach of Frostburg State in his 22nd season.
 
Rankings: Frostburg State is ranked No. 21 in the nation according to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Poll 1.
 
Series History: Notre Dame is 3-5-1 all-time when facing Frostburg State, dating back to their first meeting in 2019 and including the Bobcats pair of victories last season. IN 2022, FSU topped NDC 2-1 on Mueller Field, before defeating the Falcons 2-0 in Frostburg, MD.
 
Noting the Falcons: Last week, Notre Dame tallied a pair of draws, beginning with a 2-2 tie on Thursday at Edinboro in the season opener. Sophomore Mia Maruna and junior Ashley Rainho found the back of the net in the 14th and 48th minutes, respectively. On Sunday during the home opener, NDC tied Tiffin 1-1, as junior Miriam Szijarto scored the equalizer moments after the TU score.
 
On the year, Maruna, Rainho and Szijarto lead the Notre Dame College offense with one goal apiece. Rainho, Kalie Blaising and Meredith Foster have generated assists for NDC, as Rainho is the team leader in points (3). Maruna (6), Rainho (4), Blaising (3), Drew Barr (2) and Olivia Mototlese (2) have generated multiple shots for the Falcons.
 
Senior goalkeeper Jordan Pasalaqua has recorded nine saves and allowed three goals on 18 shots faced. The Madison, Ohio native holds a .750 save percentage and 1.50 goals against average. The Madison High School product now owns 265 career saves, the second-most in NDC program history.
 
Other key contributors include, Hailee Smith, Maridza Desir, Anaya Edwards, Madison Marino, Hannah Smith and Meghan Soltis who have generated over 100 minutes played.
 
As a team, NDC averages 1.50 goals on 11.0 shots per game. The Falcons have scored three goals on 22 shots (11 on target), tallied three assists and 12 corner kicks.
 
Noting the Bobcats: Last week, Frostburg State kicked off the season unbeaten with a 2-1 win over Shippensburg on Friday. All three goals were scored in the second half as FSU outshot Shippensburg 18-2. On Sunday, the Bobcats continued their offensive prowess by registering 30 shots compared the Georgian Court's three. FSU dismantled Georgian Court with a pair of first half scores, 2-0.
 
The Bobcats spread out their scoring as four players have one goal apiece in Madi Allen, Lela Clark, Carly Gillette and Catherine Smith. However, despite being scoreless, Frostburg State is led offensively by Toni Fiocco-Mizer who leads the team by a wide margin with 13 shots taken and six on goal. In 2022, Fiocco-Mizer paced the squad in goals (14), assists (5), points (33), shots (71), shots on goal (35) and game-winning goals (9).
 
Starting goalkeeper Ashley Bilger has surrendered one goal and recorded one save on five shots taken en route to one shutout and two wins. Bilger carries a .500 save percentage and has a 0.55 goals against average.
 
As a unit, Frostburg State averages 2.00 goals on 24.0 shots per game. The Bobcats have scored four goals on 48 shots (24 on target), registered one assist and 15 corner kicks.
