Miriam Szijarto powered the Falcons with an important and timely equalizer.
The contest started with an exchange of shots on goal in the sixth and eighth minutes. First TU sent a ball into the top left corner, but senior
Jordan Pasalaqua answered the call. Next, senior
Drew Barr followed up with a quality attempt, but the Dragon's keeper Malea Nelson was there.
Despite four more shots by the Falcons, Tiffin struck first in the 31
st minute with a heading goal via Kaelyn Harkness (1-0).
Moments later, Notre Dame found the back of the net after a set piece. Junior
Meredith Foster sent a looping cross at the top of the box, finding the boot of junior
Ashley Rainho. Rainho took a touch and passed off to Szijarto who used her left foot to perfectly place the ball in the top right corner, knotting the contest at 1-1.
NDC found a pair of opportunities before the break, however halftime hit with 1-1 on the scoreboard.
The Falcons jumped out of the half with three shots in the 55
th, 57
th and 59
th minutes but the score remained at 1-1.
The Notre Dame defense ramped up their intensity, as they didn't surrender a shot on goal in the second half until 79
th minute.
A late furry of shots from Tiffin were sent back, as 90 minutes did not separate the two sides (1-1).
The Falcons led the way with 13 (4) shots, and nine corner kicks, compared to the Dragons 7 (4) shots and one corner kick. Both keepers recorded three saves in the match.
The Notre Dame College women's soccer team will be back in action on Sunday Sept. 10 for a 4 p.m. kickoff at Frostburg State.
