Smith earns All-MEC Second Team

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – On Thursday, the Mountain East Conference announced the Acrobatics & Tumbling All-Conference teams. Freshman Katlyn Smith was named to the Second Team, following Notre Dame College's inaugural season. (Release)

Smith was an integral part of the lineup for Notre Dame. In the Compulsory Event, she competed in the Acro heat, the Pyramid heat, the Toss heat and the Tumbling heat. Throughout the season, she made an appearance in all three heats of the Acro Event, as well as, all three heats of the Pyramid Event. She participated in two of the three heats of the Toss Event, the Tumbling Event's Quad heat and the Team Event.

"Katlyn was a huge contributor in every single event throughout this first ever season," head coach Nikki Pizzi said. "Coming from a gymnastics background, and having no stunting experience, she quickly excelled as a back spot and a base. She not only led the team with her skills, but also with her infectious personality. I am so excited and proud of her being the first ever NDC acrobatics & tumbling MEC award winner and I cannot wait to see her continue to grow and develop in this sport over the next three years!"

The Falcons steadily improved as a team over the year, wrapping up the regular season with a total score of 207.795 in a meet with No. 15 West Liberty. That was a 28.125-point leap from their first ever competition. NDC was granted its first win in program history with a forfeit by Davis & Elkins.
