This Week: The Notre Dame College baseball team heads to Winter Park, Fla. for their annual Spring Break trip where the Falcons will play six contests between Mar. 6-11. NDC will begin with Ashland at 11 a.m. on Monday, then move on to Lewis University on Tuesday at 4 p.m., before playing Flagler College on Wednesday at 6 p.m., followed by Rollins College on Thursday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at noon. The Falcons will play the University of Minnesota Crookston on Friday at 11 a.m.
 
Records: NDC begins the week at 0-3, as AU is 3-1, LU sits at 2-3, FC begins the week at 2-12, while RC is 10-3 and MC is 3-5.
 
Coaches Corner: Len Barker is entering his 12^th season at the helm of the NDC baseball program for the 2022 season. Barker has a career record of 226-272.  John Schaly is the head coach of Ashland in his 26^th season, holding a career record of 876-467-4. Mike Vucsko is in his second season as the skipper of Lewis University. David Barnett begins his 36^th season as the head coach of Flagler, with a career record of 1007-819. Jon Sjogren is in his 18^th season with Rollins, amassing a career record of 431-388-3. Lastly, Steve Gust is in his ninth season with Minnesota Crookston, holding a career record of 290-319.
 
Rankings: None of these teams are ranked according to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Week 3 Poll.
 
Series History: NDC is 2-3 all-time when facing Ashland, dating back to their first meeting in 2005 and including the Falcons 13-9 victory in their most recent contest back in 2019. The Falcons are 2-1 all-time when playing against Lewis, dating back to their first meeting in 2012, and including NDC's most recent 4-3 win in 2017. Notre Dame is 0-1 in their lone meeting against Rollins last season. This week will mark the first time playing against Flagler and Minnesota Coorkston.
 
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame began their 2023 campaign with an 0-3 outing at Indianapolis. The Falcons will be looking to bounce back this week in Florida with six games in six days.
 
Redshirt junior Tyler Shadle leads NDC into the week with a .556 batting average after tallying five hits, two RBI and one home run in the opening series.
 
Freshman Zachary Kakos carries a .429 batting average (2^nd Team) and a team-high three RBI.
 
Junior Johnny Costella (.375) and redshirt senior Hayden Parker (.364) also boast batting averages above .300 as Notre Dame posts a .250 average as a team. The Falcons have nine runs scored, one double, two home runs and eight RBI on the young season.
 
On the bump, redshirt junior Preston Mauzy tossed an inning of scoreless relief for NDC in the season-opening series. As a unit, Notre Dame owns a 22.95 ERA, .454 opponent batting average to go with 12 strikeouts and 33 walks allowed.
 
Noting the AU Golden Eagles: Ashland has two games under their belt down South, beginning with a 15-11 loss to Davenport, followed by a 5-2 win against Gannon.
 
Ben Peltz is the top threat in the Golden Eagle offense, posting a team-leading .643 batting average, two doubles, two home runs and nine RBI.
 
Cam Miller adds a .435 average at the dish, as AU flashes six players at or above .300. Ashland has .326 team batting average, to go with 39 runs scored, eight doubles, two triples, four home runs and 35 RBI.
 
On the mound, the Golden Eagles feature a 5.44 ERA over 43.0 innings pitched, to go with 50 strikeouts and 14 walks allowed.
 
Closer Brad Wolfe holds a team-best 0.00 ERA over 3.1 innings, while Marshall Leishman owns a team-high 14 punchouts in 10 innings pitched.
 
Starters Josh Meyer and Brendan Beaver tout 1.69 and 2.25 ERA, respectively as Beaver has sent down 13 batters while yet to walk one.
 
Noting the Flyers: Lewis University kicked off their Spring trip with a pair of resounding wins. On Saturday, LU defeated Davis & Elkins 27-0 behind a combined no-hitter. The Flyers followed up with a 34-3 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday.
 
Michael Alt carries the team's top batting average at .455 and most doubles with three. On the other hand, Thomas Fox provides the power for Lewis with a team-leading three bombs and nine RBI.
 
Seven Flyers post 0.00 ERA out of the bullpen, however Lewis is led by starter Jake Karaba 1.69 ERA, to go with 25 strikeouts and two walks allowed.
 
As a team, Lewis has a 5.52 ERA, .276 opponent batting average, to go with 59 strikeouts and 20 walks allowed. At the dish, the team boasts a .336 average, 60 runs scored, 14 doubles, four triples, nine home runs and 56 RBI.
 
Noting the Saints: Flagler is most recently coming off a 1-2 series against No. 12 Mount Olive. The Saints won the opener 11-10, before falling 15-4 and 10-5.
 
Mason Gray holds a team-high .324 average at the plate, followed by Trey Newland at .309 and Jaiden Warde at .305. Mason and Newland have generated a team-high nine RBI apiece.
 
The squad owns a .241 average at the dish, to go with 74 runs scored, 19 doubles, two triples five home runs and 66 RBI.
 
On the mound, starter Gage Vorhees is the clear leader with a team-high 2.18 ERA, in 33.0 innings pitched, to go with 20 strikeouts and nine walks. The team holds a 6.61 ERA, .301 opponent batting average, 86 strikeouts and 63 walks allowed.
 
Noting the Tars: Rollins rounded out a three-game set with Lynn University most recently. On Friday, Rollins won 11-3, before dropping 11-6 on Saturday and wining 6-3 in the series finale on Sunday.
 
On the young season, Adams Torres is the Tars leading bat with a .429 average to go with six doubles.
 
Six Tars boast double digit RBI totals, led by Ryan Coleman's team-high 20. Rollins is a team that lives on the long ball, tallying 19 on the year.
 
In addition, RC has a .308 team batting average, 118 runs scored, 27 doubles, seven triples and 109 RBI.
 
On the mound, the Tars have a 4.18 ERA, .256 opponent batting average, to go with 108 strikeouts and 59 walks allowed. Nick Berger is the team's top arm, generating a 0.95 ERA., while Edward Berry owns a .184 opponent batting average, to go with 22 strikeouts and four walks surrendered.
 
Noting the MC Golden Eagles: Minnesota Coorkston began the Russ Matt Invitational with a 9-3 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.
 
Mike Hallquist is the fuel for the Golden Eagles offensively, posting a team-highs in batting average (.567), triples (2), home runs (3) and RBI (13).
 
Ben Golez is the other Golden Eagle to post north of .300 (.368) from the plate, while tallying 10 or more (12) RBI.
 
As a unit, MC has registered a .323 batting average, 70 runs scored, 20 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 62 RBI.
 
On the bump, Jake Dykhoff tallies a team-best 20 punchouts and only two walks allowed, in 17.1 innings pitched. As a whole, the Golden Eagles hoist a 6.07 ERA, .281 opponent batting average, to go with 70 strikeouts and 30 walks allowed.
