Men’s rugby prepares for postseason battle with Siena

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – On Nov. 18, No. 2 Notre Dame College will host a playoff game on Mueller Field against No. 5 Siena College. The match begins at noon as the two teams compete in the quarterfinal round of the National Collegiate Rugby Division I Tournament.

NDC, ranked second in the country, has finished the regular season at the top of the Rugby East Conference with an overall record of 6-1-1, while going 3-1 in conference play. The Falcons had the most wins in a regular season since winning seven games in the 2017 fall season.

The Falcons started the season 5-0-1 over their first six games. In back-to-back weeks, the Falcons played to a 9-9 draw with Army, on Sept. 30, and then defeated Penn State, 24-19, on Oct. 7. NDC has now defeated Penn State in two consecutive matchups.

Notre Dame also scored 78 points in a win over conference foe Southern Virginia, the most scored by the program since they put up 79 points in a victory over Buffalo, on Sept. 30, 2017.

Siena, currently ranked fifth in Division I, has a record of 7-1, while going 6-0 in the Liberty Conference. The Saints defeated Iona and advanced to the conference tournament finals before losing to Brown, on Nov. 4.

The winner of the NDC-Siena matchup will face the winner of the No. 4 Indiana vs. No. 9 Principia battle in the Semifinals.
