Notre Dame College men's rugby deserves to have all the recognition after taking the National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) Division I National Championship for the 2023 fall season. The NCR recognized four players,
Cameron Mills,
Tanner Smith,
Remy Thomson and
Lachy McDonald as All-Americans. The Goff Rugby Report also named 10 NDC players as part of their Hot 100 list, after the fall season.
In addition to earning All-American status, Smith (Prop), Mills (Flanker), Thomson (Scrumhalf) and McDonald (Wing/Fullback) were named to the Hot 100.
The other Props on the Hot 100 list are
Matthew Cooper and
Joseph VanBuskirk. The Notre Dame Locks are
Fraser Leslie and
Quentin von der Lieth, while
Asher Hannon was on the list as a Center and
Ashawnty Staples made it as a Wing/Fullback.
Notre Dame moved through the fall campaign, going 6-1 in the regular season before defeating Siena College, 50-0, in the NCR D1 Quarterfinals. The Falcons took down Indiana University, 26-13, before beating St. Bonaventure by a score of 33-10 in the National Championship match, on Dec. 9. That was the program's first fall national championship since 2016.
The Falcons then started the spring 7s portion of their schedule, winning the University of Pitt 7s Tournament. There, NDC took down the University of Pittsburgh (40-0), University of Dayton (41-0), Indiana University of Pa. (17-5), University of Notre Dame (10-7) and Rio Grande (27-7).
NDC will compete at the University of Maryland 7s Tournament, on March 9.
