Falcons tasked with MEC North Division foes this week

This Week: The Notre Dame College women's soccer team hosts a pair of matches beginning with Frostburg State University on Wednesday Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. Next, the Falcons play West Liberty University on Sunday Oct. 22 at noon for senior day.
 
Records: NDC enters the week on a roll, winning seven of their last nine matchups to support a 7-3-3 mark, including 6-3-1 inside the Mountain East Conference to be second in the MEC North Division with 19 points. FSU leads the MEC North Division with 25 points at a record of 11-1-1 and 8-1-1 in the MEC. WLU maintains a 5-5-3 mark, including 4-4-2 in the MEC to total 14 points and sit in third in the MEC North Divison.
 
Coaches Corner: Mike Shiels headlines the Notre Dame women's soccer program for his 21st season at the helm. Shiels carries a 201-129-37 career record, to go along with three MEC Tournament championships and four MEC Coach of the Year honors. Brian Parker is the head coach of Frostburg State in his 22nd season. Pete McMenemy is the current graduate assistant coach at West Liberty.
 
Rankings: Frostburg State and Notre Dame College are ranked 7th and 10th, respectively in the Atlantic Region poll according to United Soccer Coaches (USC), however none of these teams are ranked nationally according to the USC. NDC has been positioned No. 10 in the Atlantic Region since Oct. 3.
 
Series History: The Falcons are 3-6-1 all-time when playing Frostburg State, dating back to their first meeting in 2019 and including FSU's 2-0 victory on Sept. 10 in Frostburg, Md. Notre Dame is 13-1-8 all-time against West Liberty, dating back to their first meeting in 2013 and including the Hilltoppers 2-0 victory on Sept. 13 in West Liberty, WV.
 
Noting the Falcons: Last week, Notre Dame extended their winning streak to three games after a pair of clean sheet victories. On Wednesday, NDC used three goals to cruise past Glenville State, before traveling to WV State on Sunday to win 2-0. Junior Miriam Szijarto powered the Falcons on offense by totaling three goals scored, including the game-winning goals in both matches.
 
Following her fourth multi-goal performance of the season, Szijarto highlights the Notre Dame College offense with the most goals scored by an NDC Falcon in the last 21 years. The junior leads the Mountain East Conference and is tied fourth in NCAA DII with 12 goals scored. In addition, the Ravenna, Ohio native has 26 points on the year, tied for sixth in NDC single season history, while being tops in the MEC and tied seventh in the nation. The Archbishop Hoban High School product has been clutch for the Falcons as she owns six game-winning goals this year, tied for the most in a single season in NDC program history with Lauren Acker from 2009. Moreover, six game-winning goals are double any other mark in the MEC and currently tied for first in the entire country.
 
Mia Maruna (3), Savannah Singh (2) and Sophia Motolese (2) offer additional goals for NDC, while Louisa Follert (4) and S. Motolese (3) are the team's top assisters. Follert ranks tied for eight in the MEC in total assists.
 
Senior Jordan Pasalaqua has been a staple of the NDC defense for several years as the keeper posts tied for the most wins in NDC program history and the fifth-most in MEC history. Currently riding 255 minutes without conceding a goal, the Madison, Ohio native now owns 26 career shutouts, second in program history and fourth in league history. Lastly, Pasalaqua posts 319 career saves, second in NDC history, 21 away from surpassing Kristy Kolschetzky' 339 from 2010-13.
 
This season, Pasalaqua ranks third in the MEC in save percentage (.827), third in saves (62) fourth in goals against average (1.04), tied for fourth in shutouts (3) and fifth in saves per game (4.77). The senior has allowed 13 goals while making 62 saves on 145 shots faced.
 
As a team, Notre Dame averages 2.00 goals per game on 15.4 shots per game. The Falcons have score 26 goals on 19 assists to go with 54 corner kicks.
 
Noting the Bobcats: Last week, Frostburg State opened with a scoreless draw on Wednesday at home against WV State. FSU capped off the week on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over WV Wesleyan, as Toni Fiocco-Mizer found the back of the net in the 82nd minute.
 
Fiocco-Mizer and Madi Allen pace FSU offensively as each Bobcat has scored six goals on the year, tied for eighth in the MEC. Carly Gillette adds four goals scored, while Morgan Mrizek is the team's top facilitator ranking tied for second in the MEC with five assists.
 
Frostburg State relies heavily on defense as goalkeeper Asley Bilger ranks first in the MEC and 11th in the country with a .353 goals against average upon surrendering just four goals this year. Bilger also leads the MEC and ranks tied for 24th in the nation with six shutouts. The senior owns a .852 save percentage which is second in the MEC, to go along with 23 saves on 58 shots faced.
 
As a unit, Frostburg State averages 2.15 goals per game on 23.7 shots per game. The Bobcats have scored 28 goals on 19 assists and 107 corner kicks. FSU ranks second in the country in shots per game and third in corner kicks.
 
Noting the Hilltoppers: Last week, West Liberty defeated Davis & Elkins at home on Wednesday 2-0, scoring a goal in each half. The Hilltoppers then traveled to Concord on Sunday and fell 1-0 on a 49th minute score.
 
Amelia Compston and Morgan Kost have scored six goals apiece, tops on the squad and tied for eighth in the MEC. Compston also maintains a team-high three assists and 15 points, as the rest of the Hilltopper offense is balanced with five players having recorded multiple goals and five players registering multiple assists.
 
Between the pipes, Zara Wickert ranks second in the MEC with 71 saves at 5.92 saves per game. Wickert is fourth in save percentage (.826), tied for fourth in shutouts (3) and sixth in goals against average (1.335).
 
As a whole, West Liberty averages 2.23 goals per game on 13.9 shots per game. The Hilltoppers have scored 29 goals on 18 assists and 55 corner kicks.
