BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Notre Dame College women's rugby continued their campaign this past weekend, against Bowling Green State University. In what was a perfect day for rugby, the Falcons marched on to their ultimate goal of competing in Texas for the National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) Playoffs. The NDC Falcons defeated BGSU by a score of 75-0.
Â
Early in the match,
Ella Nelson got the Falcons going forward with quite a few barnstorming runs. Bowling Green did, on occasion, show massive grit in taking down the athletic prop. Another rookie growing by the week,
Alexis Smerek, showed her abilities as a field general and directed traffic throughout the match. In what was her first start,
Kylie Mixter showed great ability and grit by filling in on a new position and making the best of her opportunity. Also deserving great credit is hat-trick hero on the day,
Gabby Dispenza, who, besides her attacking prowess, was an absolute devastating defender. Â
Â
Besides the great rugby being played,
Isabella Gullatta, had an unbelievable performance from the kicking tee by slotting eight-of-eight. This included a beautiful conversion from the sideline.
The NCR released its Division I Top 10 Coaches Poll, with Notre Dame still at No. 1. Northern Iowa, who the Falcons beat 57-17 to start the season, is No. 2.
