Leatherman nominated for MA Sorensen Award

Following another tremendous season for Notre Dame College women's rugby, Alivia Leatherman could be recognized as the top women's collegiate rugby player in the country. She has been nominated by coaches and media for the MA Sorensen Award. (Release)

Leatherman had an unforgettable fall season. Not only did she lead the program to a third consecutive regional title and a second trip to the National Collegiate Rugby Division I National Championship game, but she also spent time with the USA Women's Eagles rugby team in South Africa. She made her debut with the national team, on Oct. 28, against Italy.

She played overseas in October and then came back in time to help the Falcons defeat No. 7 Iowa State University (44-20) and No. 5 Indiana University (27-13) in the regional tournament. NDC fell to the top ranked University of Michigan, at the National Championship Final in Houston.

The Parma, Ohio native is now a three-time NCR All-American, two-time Conference Player of the Year and is also a member of the U20 and 23 USA teams.
