Madison Marino scored first in the contest, resulting in the first goal allowed by Frostburg State this season. However, FSU (6-0, 4-0 MEC) overcame the deficit to defeat Notre Dame College (2-3-1, 1-2-1 MEC) on Sunday afternoon, 2-1.
In the 25
th minute, freshman
Emma Buda delivered a world-class cross into the box, where Marino patiently waited, took one touch, and buried the first shot of the contest into the back of the net. Buda was rewarded with her first career assist, as Marino scored her second goal of the campaign on the play.
As a result of the goal, the Bobcats ramped up their offensive prowess with four shots throughout the remainder of the half. Senior goalkeeper
Jordan Pasalaqua answered the call with a save on the only shot recorded on target for FSU during the first 45. Impressively, Notre Dame was able to suppress the Frostburg State offense who led the country entering this week, averaging 25 shots per game.
In the second half, FSU continued to pressure the ball and posted three more shots in the 47
th, 49
th and 59
th minutes. Pasalaqua was able to save a pair of shots as FSU's Toni Fiocco-Mizer sent the other shot off of the left post.
Notre Dame continued to hold onto the lead until Frostburg State broke through in the 71
st minute, equalizing the score at 1-1. One minute later, the Bobcats grabbed a 2-1 advantage, stunning the NDC faithful.
The Falcons were able to post a corner kick in the 82
nd and a shot in the 83
rd, but FSU held on to a 2-1 victory on Mueller Field.
Taking a look at both sides, Frostburg State outshot Notre Dame nine to four, as NDC generated three saves and three corner kicks to FSU's one each.
Junior
Kalie Blaising led the Notre Dame offense with two shots, as Marino and freshman
Maridza Desir tallied one each.
Between the pipes, Pasalaqua totaled three saves.
The Notre Dame College women's soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. when the Falcons travel down to Alderson Broaddus University.
