BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Notre Dame College's Alec Mendoza has been selected as the Mountain East Conference hitter of the week, following his clutch production at the plate which aided the Falcons to a 3-1 series victory over West Liberty this past weekend.
 
The redshirt sophomore went 5-for-15 at the plate over the weekend with a double and two runs scored. The Pickerington, Ohio native wreaked havoc on the Hilltoppers with a team-high seven RBIs over the four-game set, including tying his career-high with four runs driven in during game three on Sunday. On Saturday, Mendoza hit 1-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored in game one and 1-for-3 in game two. On Sunday, he went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored in game three, then 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the series finale.
 
In addition, the Pickerington North High School product contributed two innings of hitless relief on the mound for the Falcons, grabbing one strikeout.
 
The versatile third baseman has played an integral part in NDC's recent success within the MEC, winning seven of their last eight. He has now hit safely in his last eight consecutive games, and 15 of his last 16, while also tallying an RBI in six of his last eight contests. For the season, Mendoza is batting a solid .287, with the second most RBIs (27) and tied for second most hits (33) on the team. His success at the dish goes beyond hitting as he features an elite eye with the bat in hand. Mendoza has only struck out twice over the last 14 contests, generating a 8.9% strikeout rate (K/PA) this season which is the best on the team.
 
Mendoza and Notre Dame College will be back in action on Tuesday Apr. 12 against Mercyhurst University before traveling to Fairmont State University for a four-game set on Friday and Saturday Apr. 15-16.
