Women's bowling ends the season with another first place finish

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Notre Dame women's bowling team closed the season on March 26 by capturing their fourth title of the year, winning the Ohio Bowling Conference Championship tournament at AMF Sawmill Lanes in Columbus. The Falcon men were among the fifth through eighth place group in the match play bracket, while the junior varsity women finished second.

Competing on the supremely challenging 2021 ITC Women's Sectionals oil pattern, the NDC women earned the top seed by virtue of having the highest total pinfall of the three teams that posted a record of 11-5 during pool play. The women then stormed through four best-of-five bracket matches with a 12-1 record and an average margin of victory of more than 30 pins.

The Falcons took turns powering the team's romp. Freshman Olivia Johnson had six consecutive strikes during the second and third rounds of pool play. Sophomore Hannah Klein posted eight tenth frame strikes in six games as the team swept the second and third rounds of bracket matches. Freshman Rachel Foreback struck five times in a row during the semi-final and final matches. Senior Allyia Nicol had strikes on five of her last six deliveries, and fifth year senior Lauren Alexander closed her collegiate bowling career with a tenth frame double to seal the team's victory in the final game.

In the fourth round of the men's bracket, the Falcons engaged in an epic best-of-three elimination round battle with the University of Northwestern Ohio. After losing the first game by a single pin and tying the second game, the Notre Dame men scored a narrow 200-198 victory in the third game to force a two-frame roll-off, which UNOH won by a thin 47-45 margin. The University of Rio Grande won the men's division.

With junior varsity competition consisting of total pins for 24 Baker games, the NDC JV women finished 52 pins behind first-place Muskingum University.

All-Conference teams were announced before the start of Saturday's competition. Junior Romeo Patrick-Holmes led the men's First Team, while Alexander and Nicol claimed the second and third spots on the women's First Team. Freshman Ryley Cecil, sophomore Kayla Beckley, and freshman Olivia Brace captured the top three spots on the women's All-JV team, and Cecil also made the All-Freshman squad. Freshman Alex Etheredge was named to the men's All-JV team.
