MONROE, Mich. -- The Notre Dame men's and women's bowling squads traveled to Michigan for the American Heartland Conference Finals on Jan. 28. The team had their shortest trip of the year, only two hours away by bus, but they had to do a lot of bowling in one day. The format was a challenging one for this tournament – they had to bowl 30 baker games followed up by one regular individual game.
The format was broken up into six baker games in five separate blocks of games. The women started out strong in their first six games. Out of twelve teams, they were in second place behind a very strong Davenport University. They maintained second-to-fourth place throughout the 30 baker games, ultimately settling for a fourth place finish out of 12 games. The highlights of the baker games were five games over 200, including a very nicely bowled 259 baker game in game 10 of the tournament.
The men's varsity team got off to a similar start, being as high as 4th place in several of the first blocks of baker games. During the thirty games of baker tournaments, they rolled fifteen games over 200, including team high of 255. They also bowled a team baker set of 1,305, averaging 217 per man. They settled for seventh place finish overall.
The men's junior varsity squad had an overall strong day, finishing only 19 pins away from hoisting the Junior Varsity 1st place prize. They rolled 10 games over 200 during their baker games.
For the season ending awards, the women placed two First Team All-Conference players in senior
Hannah Klein and junior
Rachel Foreback.
Aiden Compton, on the men's side, also earned a First Team All-Conference award.
