Box Score 2 GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Notre Dame split their doubleheader with Glenville State on the road Sunday afternoon. NDC dropped game one 13-6, but bounced back for a 9-6 victory in game two.
Tyler Shadle went 5-for-6 on the day, including a career-high 4-for-4 during game two to lead Notre Dame to the win.
During game one, NDC grabbed runs in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings, highlighted by
Ben Ross' two-run single in the third.
Nick Petrolla scored on a wild pitch in the fourth, while Shadle drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Hayden Parker and
Alec Mendoza picked up RBIs in the final inning of play via a single and sacrifice fly respectively.
Eight different Falcons recorded a hit during game one of the doubleheader with
Michael Zeuli pacing the offense at two.
Nick Farrell and Shadle touched extra bases for NDC with a double a piece as, Mendoza, Shadle, Parker and Ross (2) generated the runs for Notre Dame.
During game two, NDC's
Alex Dicke earned the win on the mound, his second of the season, by going four innings and allowing three earned runs on just two hits.
Jesse Clark came on in relief to snag his first save of the season after he tossed three innings, allowing two runs on three hits.
Petrolla kicked off the scoring for NDC by touching home on a wild pitch in the second inning, giving Notre Dame a 1-0 advantage. In the third inning, Mendoza scored after
Kyle Espineli reached on an error, moving NDC in front 2-0.
In the fourth inning, the Falcons exploded for five runs, starting with Shadle scoring via a wild pitch.
Austin Mora doubled to center field and brought home
Parker Hray to give NDC a 4-2 lead.
Ben Ross added a sacrifice fly, followed by
Nick Farrell's two-run home run and Notre Dame was on top 7-2.
Austin Mora scored on a passed ball and
Kyle Espineli tallied an RBI single in the sixth inning to add insurance runs against the potent Pioneer offense (9-4).
Once again, eight different NDC Falcons posted hits on the day, including three Falcons with multiple hits, led by Shadle's career-high four.
Nick Farrell knocked his fourth home run of the season and led Notre Dame with two RBIs during the contest, while Mora, Ross and Espineli drove in one a piece.
