Box Score WESTFIELD, IN – Believe it or not, it is baseball season and Notre Dame College (0-1) kicked off their 2022 campaign at the University of Indianapolis (1-0). Opening day gave way to redshirt senior
Austin Mora on the bump for NDC, serving as the Falcons ace this season. Mora tossed a solid six innings allowing one earned run, while sending down seven UIndy Greyhounds.
All-American
Ben Ross led off the game with a double for Notre Dame, picking up right where he left off in 2021 when he led the Mountain East in doubles with 20.
Nick Petrolla followed up with a single and the Falcons were threatening early with runners at the corners. However, UIndy pitcher Xavier Rivas worked out of the jam to hold NDC at bay. Rivas tossed a stellar game for the Greyhounds going eight innings and striking out 11.
UIndy was able to jump in front in the bottom of the first inning after a failed pick off attempt.
With one out in the fourth,
Kyle Espineli tallied the third and final hit for NDC with a double to left center.
Indianapolis added to their 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a throwing error pushing the score to 2-0. The Greyhounds later tallied on three insurance runs in in the bottom of the eighth inning to go to a 5-0 win on opening day.
The difference in the contest were errors as NDC committed four compared to UIndy's one.
Kyle Farrell and
Cameron Kern came on in relief of Mora during the contest. Farrell pitched a scoreless seventh featuring two strikeouts.
Notre Dame will be back in action tomorrow Feb. 19 for game two of the three game weekend series against the University of Indianapolis. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
