Notre Dame returns home after monthlong hiatus

This Week: The Notre Dame College swimming and diving team will return to Mellen Pool to host John Carroll University and Oberlin College in a tri-meet on Friday Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. The last time the Falcons competed inside Mellen Pool was Oct. 28 against Edinboro.
 
Coaches Corner: Notre Dame is led by head coach Stephanie Mulvin who is in her sixth season with the Falcon swimming and diving program. Mulvin has three MEC Championship trophies under her belt, after coaching the men's side to three consecutive conference crowns in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Tanner Barton is in his third season as head coach of JCU. Lastly, Alex de la Pena is in his fifth season at the helm of Oberlin College.
 
Rankings: According to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), the John Carroll University men's team are receiving two votes to be ranked in the Division III top 25.
 
Noting the Falcons: The last time Notre Dame College competed was Nov.17-19 at the Oberlin Midseason Invite. The NDC women finished fourth out of 12 teams with 740.5 points, while the NDC men placed eighth out 12 with 634 points.
 
Senior Hannah Berlin leads the Falcons on the women's side after securing three individual victories at the Midseason Invite. Berlin won the 200 (1:58.65), 500 (5:10.76) and 1,650 yard freestyles (17:57.79) over the three-day stretch.
 
On the men's side, junior Ashton Smith picked up two victories in the 100 yard freestyle (46.34) and 200 yard free relay (1:26.10) a couple weeks ago. Smith also touched the wall third in the 100 yard butterfly (50.15), rewriting the NDC school record in the event.
 
Noting the Blue Streaks: John Carroll University competed most recently at the Kenyon Total Performance Invitational. Both Blue Streak teams took home seventh place (out of seven teams), as the women scored 343 points and the men tallied 621 points.
 
In addition, both Blue Streak teams are 2-0 in dual meets, with wins over Ohio Northern and Mount Union.
 
Noting the Yeomen: Two weeks ago, Oberlin College hosted the Midseason Invite which featured competition from 12 different institutions. The OC women's team earned first-place over the three-day event with 1,022.5 total points. On the men's side, Oberlin grabbed a second-place finish with 1,141.5 points.
 
Prior to that, Oberlin's women's team is 1-2 in dual meets, with a win against Malone and losses to Mount Union and Ashland. The OC men's team also has a 1-2 record with identical results.
