Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – Notre Dame College women's soccer continued their offensive outpour from Sunday, however fall to Wheeling in a high scoring affair, 3-2. NDC is now 1-2-1 (1-1-1 MEC), while Wheeling is 2-3 (1-2 MEC).
The first half of the match saw no shortage of goals with four shots finding the back of the net.
Jordi Markovic buried the first shot of the game in the third minute through the center of the goal to keep the train rolling for the Falcons, her first of the season. However, no more than five minutes later the Cardinals responded with an eighth minute goal from Kenadee Burgoyne. But again, no more than five minutes later the Falcons answered the bell, netting their second goal in the first 13 minutes of play, off of a pass from
Sammy Salatino to the freshman Lousia Follert for her third goal in the last two games. The pattern continued, as five minutes later Wheeling's Burgoyne netted the equalizing goal in the 18
th minute, her second of the night.
A stalemate would instill until the 77
th minute game-winning goal from Talynn DeBartolo from outside the 18-yard box. The Wheeling goal was the lone goal in the second half after a furious start to the evening from both teams.
Salatino led the Falcons with four shots and one on target. She also recorded the lone assist on the night via the Follert goal. Follert and Markovic each recorded a shot and a goal for NDC.
In total, Wheeling created more opportunities than Notre Dame by outshooting the Falcons 16 (12) to 6 (3).
Jordan Pasalaqua was under fire all evening and managed eight saves on what was a windy and wet night. Also in goal, Wheeling's Mikayla Yarwood tallied just one save between the woodwork.
Another MEC game is up next for Notre Dame as the Falcons will travel to Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland to face the Bobcats. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 26.
