– Notre Dame College volleyball was back in action for day two of the Cavalier Invitational hosted by Walsh University on Saturday. In the morning, match one was a tough for NDC as they lost in straight sets to Daemen College. With the loss, the Falcons drop to 6-2, while the Wildcats move to 3-3.
A flat start for NDC let Daemen hold control in the first set with a decisive 25-13 win. The Falcons gave it all they had in set two but the Wildcats stole it from their grasp, 28-26. In the final set, Daemen was too much for Notre Dame as they continued their momentum to a 25-16 third set and match win.
An all-around scoring attack was featured by the Falcons, as no player registered more than six kills, while seven total players joined the attack. Sophomore
Kelsie Palmer led NDC with a team-high six kills.

Andrix and
Jayme Zoeckler led the squad in the assisting department with nine apiece.
Senior
Amelia Kaeberlein posted ten digs to lead the team. Smotek (7), Andrix (6) and Zoeckler (6) were the other key contributors in defense for the Falcons. In addition, Derda (3), Palmer (2), Barr (1) and Smotek (1) added their defensive efforts at the net by grabbing the only blocks of the match for NDC.
NDC totaled 27 kills (.134 hit percent), 22 assists, 27 digs, four service aces and six blocks. Daemen was more efficient and effective in their attacks as they totaled 52 kills (.377 hit percent), 48 assists, 51 digs, four service aces and six blocks.
In the afternoon action, match two featured a true grind between Notre Dame College and Davenport University. The Panthers just barely bested the Falcons in sets one and two by a score of 25-22 and 25-23. Revenge was on the mind of NDC as they stormed back to grab sets three and four in a tight battle, 29-27 and 25-20. The Falcons final match of the invitational came down to a fifth set, where the Panthers edged out the Falcons 15-10.
Upon their afternoon defeat, NDC fell to 6-3, including three straight losses at the invitational. Davenport's win moves the Panthers to 4-3.
Dregalla was the offensive force for Notre Dame with a team-high 15 kills. Palmer (13), Barr (11), Derda (6) and Richardson (5) were the other Falcons to record multiple kills on the afternoon. Moreover, assists for the Falcons came from Andrix (29), Zoeckler (18) and Kaeberlein (8).
Similar to match one, Kaeberlein led the team in digs with 24, while Smotek (17), Andrix (10) and Zoeckler (10) all added double-digit digs themselves.
In total, NDC grabbed 60 kills (.201 hit percent), 59 assists, 78 digs, six service aces and three blocks. For Davenport, the Panthers totaled 68 kills (.222 hit percent), 64 assists, 91 digs, eight service aces and 13 blocks. The story of the match was the Davenport defense relentlessly digging and blocking the NDC attack.
Notre Dame will have the opportunity to bounce back against Lake Erie College on Tuesday Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. in Painesville, OH.
