SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College head coach
Travis Hinkle said the biggest factor in Friday's game was the energy that the Falcons had throughout the match against Alderson Broaddus University. NDC certainly kept the energy up in their 3-0 win, setting season-highs in hit percentage and total blocks.
"From the first swing until the very last point, tonight, our energy was there," Hinkle said. "We really worked on building that this week in practice, executing and being ready for the game."
The first set was tied at three and NDC went on an 8-1 run, which featured two kills by sophomore
Kaye Dregalla, a kill by freshman
Kelsie Palmer and an ace by freshman
Ellie Schenk. The Falcons would win the set, 25-14, and sophomore
Sarah DeGeorge totaled five kills.
Alderson Broaddus jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the second set. A 4-0 run by NDC, with three NDC kills and a bad set by ABU, gave the Falcons a 7-5 lead, a lead that would not be given back to the visitors. The Battlers did cut the Notre Dame lead down to one-point multiple times, but never tied the set the rest of the way. NDC won, 25-18, and both Dregalla and DeGeorge added four more kills.
Early in set three, the two teams went back and forth. The score was tied five times before Notre Dame broke it open. The Battlers scored three consecutive points to grab a 13-12 advantage. But the Falcons immediately responded and scored the next six points. Junior
Amelia Kaeberlein put down two aces during the run. The Falcons took the set by a score of 25-16.
"It was a great team win for us tonight," Hinkle said. "We got to see everyone get a chance to play tonight. We were efficient with the ball, we hit very well, we limited our errors, we served really aggressively and we had a great block and that adds up to a very successful night on the court for us."
DeGeorge finished the game with 11 kills, while hitting .500, and seven digs. Dregalla had 10 kills and junior
Katie Richardson added 26 assists, a career-high. Kaeberlein led the team with 13 digs but also totaled a career-high three aces. The Falcons had a hit percentage of .274.
Notre Dame totaled a season-high 9.5 blocks. Both sophomore
Blaire Barr and freshman
Carly Emerson had five block assists and Richardson had three block assists and one solo block.
"It's nice to be home after being on the road for two weeks," Hinkle mentioned. "This is great momentum for two huge matches next week, starting Tuesday against Fairmont."
The Falcons will host Fairmont State University on Feb. 23. The match is scheduled to being at 7 p.m.
