In 2018, Notre Dame won 16 games, a three win increase from 2017. The team also won eight conference games, which was a four win increase from the previous year.

He joined the Falcons staff after serving as the assistant volleyball coach at West Liberty for six years. In his last two seasons at WLU, Hinkle helped lead the Hilltoppers program to a 43-28 record, including a 19-13 record in the Mountain East. In 2017, West Liberty finished as the runners up in the MEC Tournament.
Before joining WLU, Hinkle was the assistant volleyball coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College, prior to the formation of the MEC in the 2008 and 2009 seasons. The Bobcats are now members of the Mountain East.
