Women's soccer to travel to Davis & Elkins and Charleston this week

This week: The Notre Dame College women's soccer team will travel to a pair of road contests this week. First on Wednesday Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. NDC will face Davis & Elkins in Elkins, WV. Then on Sunday Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. NDC will face the University of Charleston in Charleston, WV.
 
Records: Notre Dame enters the week at 3-3-3 (3-2-3 MEC) and sits in third places with 12 points in the Mountain East North Division. Davis & Elkins begins this week at 3-6 (3-5 MEC) and are in fifth place with 9 points in the MEC South Division. Charleston is 6-4 (5-3 MEC) and are in third place with 15 points in the MEC South Division.
 
Coaches Corner: Mike Shiels is in his 19th season at the helm of the NDC women's soccer program. Shiels has a career 184-112-29 record with NDC, including three MEC tournament championships and four MEC Coach of the Year honors. Dean Johnson is the head coach of D&E in his second season and has a career record of 6-10-1. Todd Diuguid is in his 21st season leading the UC women's soccer team.
 
Rankings: None of these teams are ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
 
Series History: NDC is 1-0 all-time when playing Davis & Elkins since 2019. When playing Charleston, NDC is 10-3-1 all-time since 2013.
 
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame is coming off a 1-1 week with a win on Wednesday over Wheeling and a loss to West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. On Wednesday, a 17th minute goal from Sammy Salatino off an assist from Drew Barr was the difference maker on that day. NDC would win 1-0 despite outshooting Wheeling 18 to 7. On Sunday, a 3rd minute goal from WVWC's Paloma Zamora would ultimately seal the fate in another low scoring, 1-0 match. WVWC outshot NDC 8 to 6 on the afternoon.
 
Louisa Follert leads the Falcons with five goals on the season followed closely by Salatino with four, while Jordi Markovic is the only other Falcon to record a goal. Follert and Salatino are one and two for NDC in points, shots and shots on goal and are the driving force in the offensive success that the team has had thus far. Stacking up against the competition, Follert is fifth in the Mountain East in goals, while Salatino is tied for sixth. Follert is also tied for third with two game-winning goals, tied for fifth in total points with 11, while being first in points per game with 2.2. On defense, Jordan Pasalaqua has played all 870 minutes between the pipes for NDC and totals 46 saves, with a .868 save percentage, a 0.72 goals against average and also registers four clean sheets. Amongst the Mountain East, Pasalaqua ranks third in the MEC in goals against average, first in save percentage, second in shutouts and fifth in saves per game at 4.75.
 
In total, NDC has scored 10 goals on 91 shots with 43 coming on target. The Falcons have seven assists, 46 saves, 27 corner kicks and three yellow cards in 2021. For the opposition, they have allowed seven goals on 90 shots with 54 on target. Opponents have totaled five assists, 33 saves, 19 corner kicks and nine yellow cards.
 
Noting the Senators: Davis & Elkins are fresh off a 2-0-week last week with wins over Fairmont State and Alderson Broaddus. On Thursday against FSU, D&E won 4-2 at home in a match that saw the Falcons tie it up in the 72nd minute after having a two-goal lead. However, the Senators would not let the match slip away as they netted two more goals in response, including the game-winning goal in the 77th minute. On Sunday D&E traveled to AB and handed the Battlers a 4-0 loss, marking back-back four goal performances by the Senators. It took D&E a little bit of time to get going but would eventually score in the 44th minute to ultimately win the match. D&E dominated the match outshooting AB 24 to four and generating 12 corner kicks to two.
 
In total, Davis & Elkins has scored 14 goals on the season on 92 shots with 56 on target. They have totaled 14 assists, 34 saves, 36 corner kicks, eight yellow cards and one red card. Compared to the opponents who have scored 17 times on 80 shots with 52 coming on target. Opponents have nine assists, 41 saves, 42 corner kicks and four yellow cards.
 
Noting the Golden Eagles: Charleston split their two matches last week against Concord and West Liberty. On Wednesday against Concord, UC lost 3-2 at home after a back and forth match that saw Concord go up 2-0 early, but the Golden Eagles would score two goals within two minutes to equalize in the 59th minute. However, in the 61st minute, Concord netted the game-winning goal in a match that saw Concord generate 25 shots and 14 on goal compared to UC's nine shots and six on goal. On Sunday, Charleston was the better team by dominating shots 18 to 5, but it was another back and forth match until an 87th minute goal from Rachel Osborn sent the Hilltoppers packing.  Entering the new week after winning their last match, UC will have to face Wheeling on the road before hosting Notre Dame on Sunday.
 
In total, Charleston has scored 12 goals on 141 shots with 72 on target. They have also totaled nine assists, 32 saves, 70 corner kicks and seven yellow cards. Compared to their opponents who have scored 10 times on 83 total shots with 45 on target. In addition, opponents have garnered eight assists, 56 saves, 32 corner kicks and six yellow cards.
