LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Notre Dame College, ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II, had a 2-1 record on Friday, the first day of the NWCA National Duals. The Falcons defeated No. 16 Lindenwood University, fell to No. 6 University of Central Oklahoma and then beat No. 14 Mercyhurst University to advance to day two.
Notre Dame was led by No. 1
Hunter Bray (133 lbs.) and No. 6
Jared Campbell (285) who both went 3-0.
Bray won all three matchups by decision, earning nine points on the day for the Falcons. Two of his three opponents were also nationally ranked. Bray defeated No. 12 Tanner Hitchcock (Lindenwood) and No. 8 Eric Bartos (Mercyhurst).
Campbell not only won, but gave the Falcons exactly what they needed. Trailing by one point to Lindenwood, Campbell stepped up and upset No. 5 Courvoisier Morrow via pin, early in the match. Later in the day, NDC led by just three points and Campbell was the underdog against No. 4 Jake Robb of Mercyhurst. The Falcons' heavyweight left zero doubt as he pinned Robb and gave Notre Dame six points.

Michael Viramontes won his first matchup of the day, and it was a big matchup. With the Falcons trailing Lindenwood 20-13, Viramontes won with a pin of Keaton Fogler, which gave NDC six points.
In the 184 lbs. bracket, No. 1
Tony Vezzetti had some tough competition, including No. 2 Heath Gray of Central Oklahoma. He went 2-1 on the day, which included a Sudden Victory over Trever Begin of Mercyhurst.
"Some good things and some things we definitely need to work on," Marchette said, regarding the day. "Proud of the guys' efforts, we just need to execute better."
Notre Dame will battle No. 7 Tiffin University, tomorrow, beginning at 9 a.m.
