Lacrosse looks to grab a couple home wins this weekend

This Week: Notre Dame College women's lacrosse travels to play Cleary University on April 3, at 4 p.m. On April 5, the Falcons come home to play the University of Charleston, at 3 p.m. and then the University of Virginia's College at Wise comes to town on April 7, at noon.

Records: Notre Dame is currently 4-6 on the season and 1-2 in the MEC. Cleary is 6-4 on the year while Charleston is 3-6 with a conference record of 1-2. UVa-Wise has a record of 5-5, but is 3-0 in MEC play.

Coaches Corner: Pam Jenkins is now in her third season as the head coach at NDC with an overall record of 9-27. Jason Stanyer is now in his third season at the helm of Cleary. Elizabeth Gainer is in her third season at Charleston, with a record of 15-26, overall, and 4-9 in the MEC and Meghan Dennehy is in her fifth season at UVa-Wise.

Rankings: None of these teams are ranked in the IWLCA Coaches Poll.

Series History: Notre Dame defeated Cleary in their lone matchup last season. Against the University of Charleston, NDC is 1-2 and versus UVa-Wise, the Falcons have a record of 0-4 since 2015.

Noting the Falcons: Last week, Notre Dame defeated Ohio Valley University, 19-16, and fell to Wheeling Jesuit University, 20-9. In their win over Ohio Valley, Taylor Henderson tied her career-high at NDC with six goals in the game and Katie Wendell also tied a career-high with three goals scored. Four other players scored two goals. Ellejanna Cicione recorded 10 saves. Henderson led the way again in the game against Wheeling Jesuit, scoring three goals. She now has 20 goals on the season and leads the team with 36 draw controls. Danyelle Hardy is at the head of the team in goals (23) and assists (9). Selena Carter has converted on eight free position goals and she has 19 total goals, this season. The only players on the team with double-digit goals and caused turnovers are Leslie Diaz (17 g, 10 ct) and Katie Wendell (14 g, 13 ct).

Noting the Cougars: Cleary has found their stride, winning six straight games after a slow start. CU lost their first four contests, scoring no more than 12 goals in any of the games. Since they won their first game, on March 15, the Cougars have not scored less than 17 goals in their six wins. However, Cleary has not played in over a week.

Noting the Golden Eagles: Charleston has had an up and down season. They won a game versus the University of Montevallo by two points and lost a game to Lake Erie College by one point. Other than those two contests, UC has won two games by, no less than, nine points and they have lost five games by, no less than, five points. After trailing West Virginia Weselyan by one point, at halftime last Sunday, Charleston scored 14 goals in the second half to pull out the victory. Aryanna Jones scored five goals against the Bobcats and three other players scored three goals. Kyra Tye recorded 22 saves over UC's two games last week and now has 101 on the season. Emma Renda leads the team with 22 goals and 11 free position goals. As a team, Charleston has scored just 87 times.

Noting the Cavaliers: UVa-Wise is one of two teams (Wheeling Jesuit) who have undefeated MEC records. They are 5-5 overall, but have already played two national ranked non-conference opponents. In their three conference wins, the Cavs have won by an average of 12 points, including an 18-1 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan. UVa-Wise has scored 137 goals and they convert their shots on goals at 82-percent. Caroline Earnshaw has scored 26 goals and 13 free position goals while Sydney Steinberg has 10 goals and 16 assists. McKayla Grasham, totaled seven goals over the two wins last week, which led the team. Goalkeeper Elsa Girardo won MEC Defensive Player of the Week after saving 18 shots.
