This Week: Notre Dame College travels to Fairmont State on Saturday, April 13, and Sunday, April 14, for a four-game series. The two doubleheaders are both scheduled to be played at 1 and 3 p.m.
Records: The Falcons are 14-18 (8-8 MEC) after sweeping West Liberty in four games last weekend and falling to No. 8 Mercyhurst on Tuesday. Fairmont State is 16-15 (7-9 MEC) after going 2-2 at home against Wheeling Jesuit last week.
Coaches Corner: Len Barker is in his eighth season as the head coach at Notre Dame. Barker is 166-203-1, 101-82 MEC. Phil Caruso is his fourth season at Fairmont State. Caruso, the 2017 MEC Coach of the Year, is 89-94 (53-59 MEC).
Rankings: Neither of the other teams competing this week were ranked in the April 8 National College Baseball Writers' Association Poll
Series History: Notre Dame is 12-8 against Fairmont State since their first contest in 2014. In their first three years of competition, NDC went 3-1 each year against the Fighting Falcons. But over the last two seasons, FSU actually has the upper hand. Fairmont Stats won the series 3-1 in 2017 and the teams each took two games last season.
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame is coming off a four-game conference winning streak heading into the weekend. The Falcons are now in second place in the MEC North with an 8-8 conference record, but Fairmont State is close behind at 7-9. Senior
Zach Santoro is a strong position to move up the NDC Career record lists this weekend as he ranks in the top 10 already in several categories. Santoro is currently 10th in career hits, with 140, and could move up quickly as ninth on the list is 141, eighth is 143, seventh is 145 and sixth is 149. He is currently sixth in runs (83) and needs just two more to enter the top five. Santoro is also tied for fourth in career doubles at 31 and needs to reach just 34 to tie the career record at NDC.
Noting the Fighting Falcons: Fairmont State sports one of the best batters in the conference in Zach Musgrove. A junior utility player, Musgrove has a batting average of .393 with 42 hits in 31 games. He also has recorded seven home runs and 29 RBIs. Notre Dame will also likely face a pair of pitchers who have seen a lot of success in 2019. Michael Stout (5-1) and Will Brown (4-1) each hold ERAs of 3.00 or better and have struck out a combined 102 batters in 83 innings pitched.
