The National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) announced their Tier One All-Americans with Notre Dame College's
Ilona Zaishliuk and
Danielle Walko-Siua earning a spot.
Zaishliuk was named the top player at the 8 position, according to NIRA, and Walko-Siua was named Honorable Mention.
"I'm very proud of Ilona and Danielle for receiving All-American Honors this past season," Head Coach
Luke Markovich said. "Both players worked extremely hard and led the team from their respective positions, Ilona as a forward and Danielle as a back. Because of her efforts, Ilona has been nominated for the Sorenson Award, which is an award given to the best female rugby player in the US, both club and varsity. Danielle has also been a nominee in the past. While our results and gameplay are due to a full team effort, Danielle and Ilona played a major role in leading the team on and off the field."
The Falcons went 4-4 in the regular season, winning three games against tough competition within the division. After defeating West Chester, Mount St. Mary's, American International and Norwich, Notre Dame qualified for the playoffs.
