Baseball to play at home for first time in 2019

This week: Notre Dame College hosts its first home series of the 2019 season this week with a doubleheader against West Virginia State on Saturday, March 16, and a doubleheader against Charleston on Sunday, March 17. Both sets of games are scheduled to start at 1 and 3 p.m.  

Records: The Falcons are 6-9 this after going 4-4 in their trip to Florida. These is the first Mountain East Conference games of the season for NDC. West Virginia State is 2-10 after most recently defeating Kutztown last Sunday. Charleston has started the year off 5-8, which includes a 2-5 record on the road.

Coaches Corner: Len Barker is in his eighth season as the head coach at Notre Dame. Barker is 158-194-1, 95-76 MEC. Sean Loyd is in his fifth season with West Virginia State. Loyd has amassed a record of 118-89, 85-51 MEC. Andrew Wright is in his fourth season at the helm of the Charleston baseball program, and his ninth year overall as a head coach. He previously coached five season at Concord. During his time with the Golden Eagles, he is 91-87, 49-47 MEC.

Rankings: None of the teams competing this week were ranked in the March 11 National College Baseball Writers' Association Poll.

Series History: Notre Dame is 5-7 against Charleston in a series dating back to 2014. The Falcons have been playing West Virginia State since 2012 and hold an 11-16 record against the Yellow Jackets. Last season, NDC opened its MEC play 0-4 on the road against these two teams. Notre Dame lost to Charleston again in the MEC Tournament, but was able to defeat West Virginia State 9-8 in postseason play.
