Series History: Notre Dame is 4-7 against Indianapolis in a series dating back to 2013. This will mark the fourth year in a row that Notre Dame has played an early series at UIndy. In 2018, the Falcons took a trip to Indianapolis to play the Greyhounds and Quincy University. NDC only played one game against UIndy, winning 4-3 in 11 innings.
Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame's first day of the season started off slow, with a 15-0 and 7-4 loss. But the Falcons were able to rebound a bit on day two. NDC came up short in its third and fourth games at Tusculum, but the team held a lead in each game. Notre Dame's senior duo
Zach Santoro and
Rick Phillips were the offensive leaders over the first weekend as both players recorded five hits in 13 at bats for a .385 average. Along with
Nick Farrell,
Matt Richards and
Lukas Thompson, the Falcons had five players who got on base at least a third of the time.
Noting the Greyhounds: Indianapolis's leadoff hitter, Macy Holdsworth, was able to get on base twice in each of the team's three games this season. Holdsworth was joined at the top of the lineup by Hunter Waning who batted second in the Greyhounds' final game of last week. Waning started the series batting sixth and sat out the second game. Holdsworth has totals of six hits, four runs and six RBIs in three games while Waning has four hits, four runs and six RBIs in two games. The UIndy pitching staff has also performed well in the team's first series as nine pitchers have ERAs under 4.00 and six pitchers have yet to allow an earned run.
