FAIRMONT, W.Va. – In their first dual meet of the season, No. 5 Notre Dame College was able to secure a 45-0 win over Fairmont State University, on Tuesday afternoon. The victory represents the program's first Mountain East Conference win and
Sonny Marchette's first dual win as a head coach.
The NDC Falcons set the tone as No. 2 ranked
Hunter Bray (133 lbs.), No. 8
Kelan McKenna (141) and
Sandro Ramirez (149) all pinned their opponents. By the time the 157 lbs. matchup took place, Notre Dame led 18-0.
At 157,
Jordon Tague and Fairmont State's Devan Hemrick had a good battle, with Tague getting by with a 6-5 decision.
Alonzo Turner (165) and No. 7
Jared Campbell (heavyweight) both won by decision, as well. Those three bouts added nine total points to NDC's score.
Late in the meet,
Michael Viramontes pinned John Halajian at 197 lbs. for Notre Dame's fourth pin of the day.
"I'm really happy with the team's win today," Marchette said. "Everyone wrestled good and I thought we executed well, but still have some work to do. I want to thank my coaches and supporting staff for all their help leading up to our first dual meet.

Notre Dame will compete next at the NWCA National Duals, on January 10, in Louisville, Ky.
