WAUWATOSA, Wis. – Notre Dame College's bowling teams continued their torrid start to the season, making history on the way to a third-place finish in the Men's Division of the Midwest Collegiate Championships, contested at Bowlero, on October 5 and 6.
During the tournament's final round of Baker games on Sunday, the men's team erupted for two perfect 300 scores in a span of three games. In Baker-style bowling, each team member rolls two frames of a single ten-frame game. A 300 score consists of five bowlers stringing together 12 strikes in a row. Rolling one Baker 300 is a rare feat. Accomplishing it twice in one day is nearly unheard of.
The line-up for both perfect games consisted of sophomore
Logan Reedy, junior
Anthony Evans, junior Conner Novak, sophomore
Cameron Gonce, and junior
Dean Vargo. As the anchor, bowling the fifth and tenth frames, Vargo rolled the final three strikes of each game.
Vargo also averaged 215 for six games during Saturday's individual rounds, finishing 10th among the 288 men competing in the event.
The Falcons needed every pin, as they made the tournament's Top Three by finishing just one pin ahead of fourth place Lindenwood University. The final standings were topped by McKendree University.
The MCC is a Tier I tournament, one of intercollegiate bowling's 10 major championships. The Falcons averaged 203 for 46 games over the course of the weekend while bowling on a demanding oil pattern developed specifically for the event.
The women's team, who won the season-opening Racers Classic in September, finished 13th in the Women's Division. Senior
Angela Gabriele led the Team with a 194 average for six games, finishing 21st among the tournament's 196 women.
The Notre Dame bowlers will be heading to Dayton for the Orange and Black Classic on October 12 and 13.
