SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- On Friday afternoon, Notre Dame College took the field against West Chester University, looking to bounce back from their loss to Dartmouth the previous week. The Falcons had a strong showing on the home turf and wrapped up a 60-0 victory.
"The ladies responded very well to the training sessions in the short turnaround between games," said head coach
Luke Markovich. "They've shown how dedicated they are and how committed they are to improving."
Needing a solid victory before an off weekend and a grueling away schedule, the Falcons (1-1) accomplished just that. Freshman flanker, freshman
Saher Hamdan, started the scoring in the 7th minute with a powerful run over the tryline. This would be her first of four tries on the day. Senior
Ilona Zaishliuk had three tries of her own, with seniors
Anna Benko,
Meckena Hultin, and
Marcaya Bailous all contributing tries to the stat sheet. Senior
Danielle Walko-Siua added two conversions and senior
Maggie Kowalik added three.
"While our finishers did their jobs, it was a full team effort to play in West Chester's half and to retain ball for a majority of the game," Markovich said. "I'm very happy with the way we responded but we still have a lot of work to do. The ladies have answered the call and continue to grow but they are hungry for more."
Notre Dame goes into the bye week, and then take on Mount St. Mary's on September 22 in Emmitsburg, Md. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
