Volleyball takes to the court four times this week

This week: Notre Dame College volleyball will play a tri-match in Painesville, Ohio on October 9 against Salem University (5 p.m.) and Lake Erie College (7 p.m.). The Falcons head to West Virginia to play West Virginia Wesleyan College at 7 p.m. on October 11. They will then play Glenville State College at 5 p.m. on October 12.

Location change: The tri-match on Tuesday was moved from Murphy Gymnasium to the campus of Lake Erie College.

Records: The Falcons are currently 8-10 and hold a 2-3 Mountain East Conference record. Salem holds a record of 7-20 and Lake Erie is 12-7. West Virginia Wesleyan sits at 4-14 (3-4 MEC) while Glenville State is 5-10 (1-6 MEC).

Coaches Corner: Travis Hinkle is in his first season at Notre Dame. Tammy Gandee is also in her first season as the head coach with Glenville State. Ashley Ziegel is now in her second season as the head coach of Salem. Last season, the team went 9-24. Kyle Peck is the head coach of Lake Erie College and Nancy Wheeler is at the helm of West Virginia Wesleyan.

Rankings: None of the teams are ranked in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

Series History: The Falcons are 2-0 versus Salem since 2017 and they have a record of 0-9 against Lake Erie since 2011. NDC has a record of 3-3 against WVWC since 2012 and 5-1 against Glenville State since 2011.

Noting the Falcons: In Notre Dame's 3-0 win over Concord last week, the Falcons had a hit percentage of .279. Mary Kate McHugh had 15 kills and a hit percentage of .536 while Roberta Jokubauskaite had nine block assists, which was an NDC single game record. Her nine total blocks in a three set match is also an NDC single game record. Mary Kate McHugh is third in the Mountain East Conference in kills-per-set with 3.87 per-set and she also ranks third with 4.19 points-per-set. This season, Alexandra Kaeberlein is ninth in NCAA Division II at 6.33 digs-per-set and is tied for 16th in total digs at 418. Paige Staudacher is third in the conference with 8.83 assists-per-set. Notre Dame's defense has held opponents to a .145 hit percentage, on average, which ranks third lowest in the MEC. NDC is second in the conference, and 13th in the nation, in digs at 19.21 per-set.

Noting the Tigers: Salem went 1-2 last week losing to Kentucky State but beating Bluefield State (3-0) and Central State (3-1). The back-to-back wins equals their longest winning streak of the season. The Tigers are 1-8 on the road and 4-8 in neutral sites. Salem has been swept in 15 games.

Noting the Storm: Lake Erie started extremely well, putting together a record of 7-3 in their first 10 games and 10-3 in their first 13 games. However, they have gone 2-4 in their last six contests. Morgan Briggs is 12th in NCAA-II as she averages 6.08 digs-per-set. Lake Erie is 19th in Division II in digs-per-set at 18.84. Courtney Rosebrook is averaging a .297 hit percentage and leads the team with 53 blocks. Crystal Kendroske leads the team with 226 kills and 253.5 points.

Noting the Bobcats: West Virginia Wesleyan is currently fifth in the MEC with 1.93 blocks-per-set. WVWC started the season losing their first nine games and they are currently on a four game losing streak. On average, the Bobcats have a hit percentage of .127. Mackenzie Wheeler leads the team in assists (318), aces (14) and she is third in digs (107).

Noting the Pioneers: Glenville State has gone 1-7 following a three game winning streak in early September. Madison Gargus is fifth in the conference with 8.50 assists-per-set. She also leads the team with an average hit percentage of .250 this season and is second in aces with 16. Bailey Brawner leads the team in kills (144) and is third in digs (139).The Pioneers have struggled against teams' blocking defense as they lead the conference in opponent blocks, allowing 2.71 per-set.
