Baseball racks up hits at Urbana

URBANA, Ohio - The Notre Dame College baseball team split in a make-up doubleheader at Urbana on Sunday. After getting rained out at home on Friday, the Falcons went to Urbana and won the first game 14-7 while losing the second 9-4. In both games, NDC tallied 13 hits.

The first inning of game one got things going as five different Falcons drove in runs to go up 5-1. Urbana came back to tie things up in the top of the fourth inning, but NDC responded with another five-run inning in the bottom of the inning to go up 10-5. Playing as the home team, the Falcons scored another four runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Notre Dame's 14 runs in the game one victory tied a season-high which was set at Fairmont State on April 15. In both of those games, the team also recorded a season high 13 RBIs. Leading the team today was the trio of Nick Ely, Nate Rearick and Matt Seekins who each batted in three runs. Combined with Adam Purdy's pair, the five through eight spots in the lineup combined for 11 of the 13 RBIs.

Danny Beaver recorded four hits in the first game and scored three runs. Beaver also tallied two hits in game two to move his season average above .300.

Pitching for the Falcons, and earning his third-straight win, was Josh Armbruster who struck out two batter in five innings.

Despite earning 13 hits in the second game, the Falcons came up short as they left 15 runners on base. Urbana went up 2-0 in the first inning and never gave up the lead.

Notre Dame will conclude its season tomorrow, May 7, at Urbana. The doubleheader games are scheduled to begin at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
