STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Over the weekend the Notre Dame College women's rugby team traveled to Penn State University where they beat Virginia Tech, 62-5, on Saturday and fell to Penn State, 62-8, on Sunday. With the win on Saturday, NDC will advance to the Championship, in Georgia, on May 5.
On a gloomy and windy April Saturday, the women played an athletic Virginia Tech and walked away with a 62-5 win. This win guaranteed a spot in the Final Four for either Division I Spring Championships.
"This was the first match of the spring season, however, the women overcame the odds, stuck to the system," said coach
Jason Fox.
The women faced nationally ranked Penn State University on Sunday. The Falcons faced adversity by overcoming some injuries from the match prior. NDC tried their hardest to retain possession, but Penn State was too strong. The Nittany Lions dictated the remainder of the match through the hands of a very talented and physical backline, resulting in a loss for the Falcons.
"Despite losing on Sunday, we learned a lot from an elite program such as Penn State," Fox said. "We look forward to playing in the final four."
Notre Dame will play in the D1 Final Four against Stanford University at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 5.
