GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Freshman pitcher
Tyler Gault shutout Glenville State on Sunday afternoon for his second-straight complete game shutout against MEC opponents. Gault did it differently this time, striking out six batters during the contest. In his near-perfect game a week ago, the defense was responsible for al 21 outs as batters put the ball into play, but struggled to reach first.
Gault is now 3-1 on the season, leading the Notre Dame College baseball team. He also leads with team with a 4.32 ERA. The right hander has faced 163 batters this year and has allowed just a .258 batting average.
On the offensive end for the Falcons,
TJ Lett and
Danny Beaver started and ended the game by driving in runs in the first and seventh innings, respectively. Beaver led the team with two hits and scored the run in the first inning from Lett's sacrifice fly.
In game two, the Pioneers controlled most of the game going up 3-0 after the third inning and keeping the lead through the nine innings for a final score of 8-4.
Highlighting the game was outfielder
Ricky Phillips who drove in three runs for the Falcons. With a single in the fifth inning and a two-run shot in the seventh, Phillips brought in three runs for the second time this year and becomes the third NDC player to collect double-digit RBIs.
Beaver, Falcon's leadoff hitter, scored one run in each game on Sunday to move his total to a team-high 17. He also recorded four hits, two in each game, a category he also leads the team in with 25.
Notre Dame will play a single game at West Virginia Wesleyan tomorrow, April 3 at 11 am. This will be a make-up game from Saturday's home doubleheader and the Falcons will play as the home team.
