BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Notre Dame College baseball team fell in two games at Fairmont State on Friday afternoon with scores of 4-1 and 5-1. FSU improved its record to 20-16, 12-6 MEC while NDC moved to 9-25, 5-13 MEC on the season.
The Falcons struggled offensively in game one, reaching first base just eight times on six hits, one fielder's choice and one walk against Michael Stout who earned his sixth win of the season. Stout pitched all seven innings of game one, striking out four batters.
Sharing the mound with Stout was freshman
Tyler Gault, who allowed three earned runs and struck out three batters. Gault remains second on the team with an ERA of 3.95.
Ricky Phillips led NDC in game one with two hits in two at bats. He also earned a walk and scored the lone run. Phillips was brought in by
Adam Purdy in the seventh inning.
In the second game, Notre Dame went on the board first with a run brought off a
Matt Seekins's double in the second inning to go up 1-0. Fairmont State tied the game up in the fourth inning and took a 2-1 lead after five. FSU added its final three runs in the eighth.
Adam Purdy and
Nick Ely each recorded two hits in game two, with Ely scoring on Seekins's hit while Purdy and
Danny Beaver each successfully stole a base.
Notre Dame will play at Fairmont State again tomorrow, April 15. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
