FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The No. 1 ranked team in the nation, Nova Southeastern, capitalized early against the Notre Dame College Baseball team as they went up 18-2 after the first four innings. The Falcons held their own in the last five innings, however, outscoring the Sharks 5-1 for a final score of 19-7 in favor of NSU.
After going up 7-0 through two innings, with the help of a grand slam from Jeremy Vasquez, the Sharks gave up their first runs in the third inning starting with a solo home run from
Jacob Carpenter. Down 18-2, the Falcons scored again in the fifth inning on two unearned runs batted in by
Danny Beaver and
Austin Barnhart.
NDC had its best offensive showing in the final inning, scoring three runs as
TJ Lett,
Nick Ely and
Zach Santoro earned consecutive RBIs. Ely and Carpenter led the team with two hits each.
On the mound, freshman
Hunter Kuzak showed his skill in first career appearance. Hunter, an Amherst, Ohio native, gave up just one hit in three innings while striking out five batters. The five strikeouts are a season-high for the Falcons in a single game.
Notre Dame will compete again tomorrow, March 7, at 2:30 p.m against Walsh in Winterhaven, Fla.
