Falcons fall to Cavaliers

WINTERHAVEN, Fla. - The Notre Dame College baseball team was able to score first on Tuesday against Walsh in the second inning, but wasn't able to get anyone home after the first run came in.

Dominic Lombardo drove in the run in the lone Falcon run on a fielder's choice, bringing in Zach Santoro. Walsh responded in the same inning with a run of its own to tie the game 1-1.

The Cavaliers tacked on one more run in each the third and sixth innings before coming out strong in the seventh inning with five runs. Austin Szink hit a three-run homer to bring in the first set of runs while teammate James Thomas hit a two-RBI single later on. Walsh tacked on one more run in the eighth inning to result in the final 9-1 score.

The Falcons were led offensively by TJ Lett who recorded two hits on four at bats while three other Falcon players each earned a hit of their own. Both Lett and Nick Ely have recorded at least one hit in eight of the nine games this season.

On the mound for NDC was Andrew Raponi who struck out two batters in 6.1 innings before handing things over to Kenny Pierson.

Notre Dame will play tomorrow, March 8, against the University of Findlay at 9 am. The Falcons will also play on March 9 against Grand Valley State and finish their Florida stint in a doubleheader against Ohio Dominican on March 11.
