AVON, Ohio – The Notre Dame College baseball team lost two games against Charleston on Saturday afternoon by a combined score of 10-4 despite only giving up four more hits throughout the double header.
In the first game,
Josh Armbruster threw his third complete game of the season, giving up just one earned run in a 3-1 loss. Armbruster struck out seven batter in the same amount of innings.
"It's very important to have a guy like that on the mound; we just have to start giving him more support on offense," associate head coach
Jason Erdelyi said. "He's gone 20 innings with just one earned run scored by our offense in his past three games. He's giving us chances, but we haven't been able to get the clutch hitting."
That lone earned run came in the game against Charleston when Jacob Carpeter drove in a run in the fourth inning to tie the game up 1-1. The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the sixth inning to result in the final score.
In the second game, Charleston won by a score of 7-3. UC recorded 12 hits in the game while NDC tallied 10.
"We need better approaches," Erdelyi said about driving in more runs. "Our guys are pressing too much with runners in scoring position. If we just relax eventually the runs will come."
Charleston took advantage in the middle of the second game, scoring five of its seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Adam Purdy recorded five hits on the day to lead the Falcons while also stealing a base.
TJ Lett finished with two stolen bases, both in the second game.
