Notre Dame volleyball wraps up their regular season with Urbana and WJU

This week: Notre Dame College volleyball will wrap up the regular season with two Mountain East Conference games. They finish their four game road trip by traveling to Urbana University to play on November 7 at 7 p.m. The final regular season home game will be November 10 against No. 21 Wheeling Jesuit University in the Murphy Gymnasium at 6 p.m.

Records: The Falcons are 13-18, overall, this season and are 4-10 in the MEC. Urbana has a record of 17-14 and 9-4 MEC, while WJU holds a record of 26-4, 14-0 MEC, and are currently on a 23 game winning streak.

Coaches Corner: Notre Dame volleyball head coach, Troy Haught is in his third season with a record of 33-61, 15-31 MEC. Tim Balice is currently 50-45, 26-19 MEC in his third season with the Blue Knights. At Wheeling Jesuit, Christy Benner has gone 485-118, overall, and is also 62-0 in the MEC in nearly 16 full seasons as head coach.

Rankings: Wheeling Jesuit was 21st in the AVCA Coaches Poll on October 30. They are also first in the Atlantic Region rankings.

Series History: The Falcons are 2-12 against Urbana since the series started in 2011 and lost to Urbana 3-0 on September 22. NDC is 0-9 against Wheeling Jesuit since 2013 and fell to the Cardinals by a score of 3-0 on September 29.

Noting the Falcons: On October 31, NDC was able to win on the road against Ohio Dominican University by a score of 3-2. Both teams held a hit percentage of .177 percent and Notre Dame was able to take the final set 15-13 in a back-and-forth battle. Melissa Maczuzak, who is third in NCAA Division II with 471 kills, had 22 points, 15 kills and 16 digs while Natalie Spadaro gave the Falcons 16.5 points and Mary Kate McHugh had 19 points with 17 kills. Lloyana Hunter held an attack percentage of .286. On November 3, NDC lost to Fairmont State, 3-0. Mary Kate McHugh recorded 17 kills and an attack percentage of .314. Ali Kaeberlein had 29 digs and Maczuzak had 15 digs. Maczuzak is 17th in the nation in points per set and 11th in Division II in kills per set. Paige Staudacher added 30 assists in the game. She is now seventh in Division II with 1090 assists. Against Shepherd University on November 4, Melissa Maczuzak gave the Falcons nine kills and 10 points. McHugh had eight kills and Staudacher added 20 assists.

Noting the Blue Knights: The Blue Knights played three games last week, starting with Charleston on October 31, which was a 3-0 win. As a team, the Blue Knights had a .383 attack percentage and 55 kills. Six athletes had an attack percentage over .300 percent and three had an attack percentage over .600 percent. Katlynn Dunlap, who is 18th in the nation in kills with 381, had 14 kills, 15 points and .306 attack percentage while Madison Davis and Kaitlin Trace each had 11 points. Anna Davis had 32 assists and Maia Dunlap gave the Blue Knights 17 digs. In a close 3-2 loss to Shepherd on November 3, Aleese Butler recorded 12 kills, .435 attack percentage and 12.5 points. Deandra Atwood had 24 assists and Katlynn Dunlap had 15 digs. The Blue Knights took down Fairmont State University on November 4 by a score of 3-1. Cecily Clark recorded 17 kills, 19 points and an attack percentage of .349. Atwood had 17 assists and Anna Davis added 26 assists. Katlynn Dunlap had 15 kills, 33 digs and 16.5 points. Her 33 digs are tied for the second most in Urbana's Division II era. UU is second in the conference in hitting percentage.

Noting the Cardinals: As a part of their 23 game winning streak, Wheeling Jesuit beat Lake Erie College 3-1 on November 1. The Cardinals had an attack percentage of .260 and had to come back after losing the first set, 25-21. Cassie Meyer recorded 18 kills and 20.5 points. Haley Kramer, who is 14th in Division II with a .390 attack percentage, had 16 kills and a .342 attack percentage. Maddy Smith recorded an attack percentage of .364, Makenna Babb had 24 digs and Stephanie Sylvester had 15 digs. Sylvester is first in Division II with 1195 assists, this season. In a 3-0 win over Concord University on November 3, WJU had an attack percentage of .402. Sylvester had 44 assists, Meyer added 17 kills, 17.5 points and an attack percentage of .424. Makenna Babb had an attack percentage of .556 percent. Haley Kramer added 15 kills and 18.5 points. Kramer is first in the MEC in hitting percentage. Against the University of Virginia's College at Wise, Wheeling Jesuit put together a .442 attack percentage, for the contest, with 48 kills. WJU won 3-0 and Stephanie Sylvester gave the Cardinals 38 assists, Audrey Francis had 15 digs. Kramer added 13 kills, 13.5 assists and an attack percentage of .632 and Meyer 11 kills and 14.5 points. As a team, the Cardinals are 16th in the nation, and first in the Mountain East Conference, in attack percentage. They are also seventh in the nation in team assists and eighth in team kills. They are first in the conference in team assists and kills.

Going for the kill: These three teams have four of the top five leaders in kills per set in the conference (Maczuzak, Meyer, Kramer, Dunlap).
