Notre Dame women's rugby beats Pitt, loses to Lindenwood

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame College hosted the University of Pittsburgh for the last home game of the fall season on October 28, winning 77-0.

After honoring seniors Katy Klemencic, Cierra Parsons, Sarah Tomasulo, Karmin Macedo, and Emilia Ferrera, the Falcons (3-5) took the field with a furry and never looked back. The dominant Falcons were not inhibited by the cold, rainy day and went on to defeat Pitt by a score of 77-0. The effort was led by Colleen Carroll, Kayla Rudman, and Danielle Walko-Siua, all scoring hat tricks.

"The ladies took care of business today," said head coach Luke Markovich. "We were able to starve Pitt of possession and play within their half 95% of the game. While we lacked a bit of technicality in some areas we improved our efficiency in others. It was a win we needed coming off two difficult conference losses."

St. CHARLES, Mo. -- On November 4, the Falcons traveled to St. Charles, Missouri to face Lindenwood University for their last match of the fall campaign, falling 97-0.

Lindenwood played Penn State the previous week, in what was a rematch of last year's National Championship game. LU decidedly beat last year's champs, PSU, by a score of 54-21. The Falcons, showing great resolve, took to the field with a limited roster due to injuries.

Lindenwood started scoring straight away, scoring two tries in the first five minutes. A gritty 10 minute period followed in the Lindenwood half that saw LU committing constant penalties and allowing Notre Dame (3-6) to control the clock and the territory. NDC fought for every inch but were met by a strong defensive stand.

When the dust settled and the whistle was blown to end the half, Lindenwood was up 45-0. The second half was a continuation of the first, but NDC gave their all and jogged off the fields with their heads held high.

"It's a tough situation," Markovich mentioned. "Lindenwood came out with a chip on their shoulder, having knocked off last year's National Champs, and we responded by defending and attacking on the back foot."

"Our game plan was not executed properly but I attribute a lot of that to the tenacity of Lindenwood's players. We knew what to expect coming in and we didn't execute when we had the opportunities. There were many takeaways from the game but the biggest is the motivation to improve. This loss will leave a bitter taste and the ladies won't soon forget it."
