Notre Dame volleyball will play three road games this week

This week: Notre Dame College volleyball starts a four game road trip by traveling to Columbus, Ohio and playing Ohio Dominican University on October 31 at 7 p.m., they will then play Fairmont State University on the road on November 3 at 7 p.m. and then will travel to Shepherd University on November 4 and play at 4 p.m.

Records: The Falcons are 12-16, overall, this season and are 4-8 in the Mountain East Conference. The Panthers are 4-22 in 2017 while the Fighting Falcons are 17-8, 8-3 MEC and the Rams are 18-6, overall, and 6-4 MEC.

Coaches Corner: Notre Dame volleyball head coach, Troy Haught is in his third season with a record of 32-59, 15-29 MEC. Jennifer Fekpe is in her second season as head coach of the ODU program after spending three years as an assistant coach. She has a record of 12-40. Courtney Materazzi is in her fourth season at the helm of FSU and holds a record of 87-37 while Alex Hoekstra is in his second season as a head coach of Shepherd and has a 30-26, 11-15 MEC record.

Rankings: None of the teams received votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

Series History: The Falcons are 1-0 all-time against Ohio Dominican, winning 3-2 in 2016. NDC holds a record of 1-12 against Fairmont State since the series started in 2011, and fell 3-2 on October 7. NDC has a 3-7 record against Shepherd since 2012, and lost 3-1 on October 6.

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame lost to West Liberty University 3-0 on October 24 and Melissa Maczuzak, who is third in NCAA Division II in kills, led the team with 12 kills and 13.5 points. She now leads the team in kills (456) and points (497). Mary Kate McHugh, third in the conference in service aces, had seven kills and 12 digs while Paige Staudacher added 28 assists in the game. She now has 966 on the year and is tied for ninth in Division II. On October 27, the Falcons lost to the University of Charleston 3-0. Maczuzak gave NDC 13 kills and 14 points. Ali Kaeberlein had 14 digs and is fourth in the MEC in digs, while Staudacher helped with 30 assists. On October 28, the Falcons lost to West Virginia State University, on Senior Day, 3-0. NDC had their best attack percentage of the week (.153), as a team. Maczuzak had a hit percentage of .231 to go along with 22 kills and 22 points. Staudacher had 39 assists and Kaeberlein added 11 digs.

Noting the Panthers: Ohio Dominican lost both of their home games last weekend. On October 27, the Panthers won the first set with a .406 attack percentage, but then lost the final three sets to the University of Findlay. Alexis Young recorded 13 kills, .308 attack percentage and 14.5 points for ODU. Ashton Barr, who has 593 assists on the season, had 30 assists and Anna Ficker gave the Panthers 11 digs. On October 28, Ohio Dominican once again won the first set but lost the final three sets. Ashton Barr had 43 assists and Rebecca Skidmore had 11 kills and an attack percentage of .417. Alyssa Hoyng, leading the team in kills (197) and points (223), added 12 kills and a .321 attack percentage.

Noting the Fighting Falcons: Mackenzie Harrison had 19 kills, 19 digs a .255 attack percentage and 20 points in Fairmont State's 3-0 loss to Gannon University on October 24. Megan Clerico, fifth in the MEC in digs, added 17 digs. FSU beat West Liberty University 3-2 on October 27. The team had a .257 attack percentage and Harrison recorded 26 kills, 14 digs and 31 points. Alexa Gore, who is second in the conference in assists, gave the Fighting Falcons 51 assists while Taylor Wisniewski had 11 kills and an attack percentage .296. Fairmont State lost to Wheeling Jesuit University, 3-1, and Harrison added 18 kills, 21 digs and 21 points. Gore had 41 assists and Alyssa Kelly contributed 11 kills. The Fighting Falcons won the second set, which was only the third set in conference play that the Cardinals had lost this season. Harrison leads NCAA Division II in points per set, kills, total attacks, attacks per set and kills per set.

Noting the Rams: Shepherd lost to Wheeling Jesuit, 3-0, on October 27. Cambriea Hill, who leads the team with 291 kills and 340 points, gave the Rams 14 kills, 10 digs and 15.5 points while Amanda Snowden had 10 kills and 11 points. Imani Major, leading the team with 390 digs this season, had 16 digs. The team had 50 digs. In a 3-0 victory over West Liberty on October 28, Snowden recorded 13 kills and 14 points and her teammate, Hill, added 13 digs. Jessica Karcz had 29 assists and is now fourth in the MEC in assists. Christine Jackson, who is second in the MEC in attack percentage, had a .286 attack percentage in the game. Shepherd's defense stepped up, holding West Liberty to a .089 attack percentage.
