BUFFALO, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, Notre Dame College was on the attack and beat the University at Buffalo by a final score of 79-12.
The Falcons are now 3-1 on the season and 2-1 in the conference.
Khalid Williams opened the scoring with a try off of a multiple phase play. Jasper Windor-Clive added the conversion, as he went 8-for-12 on conversions and added a penalty kick. Also scoring for the pack was
Andrew Guerra (2),
Christian Olsen and
Calum Haddock. Our back scoring was led by
Marcus Tupuola (2),
Cory Graham,
Evan Bradshaw, Pat O'Shea, Liam Tipton Fletcher and
Ro'Neil Reynolds.
"We wanted to make sure there was no let down after our victory over Army last week, so we really wanted to concentrate on playing more mistake free (less penalties), stick to our system, and come up fast on defense to take away space from the attacking side," Fox said. "I think we did a very good job on all aspects. Buffalo's scrums were very good and they are well coached. We were able to keep possession and control the pace of the game for the most part. "
The Falcons had a very balanced scoring from the pack (5 tries) and the backs (7 tries), along with very good place kicking from freshman Jasper Windsor-Clive. Both
Cory Graham and
Marcus Tupuola created space to either set up the scoring chances or create long gains. Notre Dame moved the ball well in space that set up scoring opportunities, both through the middle and on the outside.
"We know that by moving up to D1A and into the Rugby East Conference, we have to take it one game at a time, and concentrate on getting better each week," Fox mentioned. "We have been getting better on eliminating mistakes since the game against Penn State, however, we need to be more consistent in our set pieces. We are happy with the start but it is a long season and we need to keep up our work rate at every practice and lifting session. We will have a weekend off, then head to New England for our Fall Break to play two very good teams in AIC on Thursday, October 12 and NEC on Saturday, October 14. Those should be great tests for us with four games in a 10 day span."
Notre Dame will play American International College on October 12 in Springfield, Mass. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
