This week: Notre Dame College volleyball will play Concord University, in Athens, W.Va., on October 13 at 5 p.m. and then will take on the University of Virginia's College at Wise at 1 p.m. on October 14 in Wise, Va.
Records: The Falcons are 7-12, 0-5 in the Mountain East Conference this season while Concord is 9-12 and 3-2 MEC. UVa-Wise is 4-14, overall, and 1-4 in the MEC.
Coaches Corner: Notre Dame volleyball head coach,
Troy Haught is in his third season with a record of 27-55, 11-26 MEC. Kate (Dillon) Southcott is in her ninth season at the helm of the Mountain Lions and holds a 118-169 record in that time. In charge for Virginia-Wise is Kristen Salyer, who is in her sixth season as a head coach. Last season, the Cavaliers went 10-24, 8-8 MEC.
Rankings: None of the teams received votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll.
Series History: The Falcons have gone 1-3 against Concord since the two teams started playing in 2013. NDC defeated Concord by a score of 3-1 in 2016. Also since 2013, Notre Dame holds a record of 2-2 against UVa-Wise. Last season, the Falcons beat the Cavaliers 3-0.
Noting the Falcons: On October 6, the Falcons were at home to take on Shepherd University and lost 3-1. Notre Dame received 15 kills and 14 digs from
Melissa Maczuzak and 16 digs and 19 points from
Natalie Spadaro.
Paige Staudacher also led the team with 36 assists in the game. NDC kept the first set close and then won the third match. Maczuzak was recognized in the second set after recording her eighth kill of the game and 1005th of her career, breaking the NDC career record. In a very close game with Fairmont State, Notre Dame won the first and third set, but could not close out the game. The Falcons played well, finishing the match with a .301 attack percentage, their best percentage since September 17, 2016.
Melissa Maczuzak finished the game with 23 kills, 10 digs, a .341 hit percentage and 25.5 points.
Natalie Spadaro added 17 kills and 18 points and
Mary Kate McHugh gave the Falcons 15 kills and 17 points.
Ali Kaeberlein ended the game with 19 digs. Maczuzak leads the team this season in kills (284) and points (310).

Paige Staudacher is third in the conference in assists per set (9.11). Maczuzak is fifth in the MEC for kill per set with 4 and she is tied for eighth in the nation for total kills.
Noting the Mountain Lions: Brooke Heck had 12 kills and an attack percentage of .611 in Concord's 3-0 win over UVa-Wise, on the road, on October 3. Lindsay Maddox had 12 digs and Casey Mandeville recorded 17 assists. Against King University on October 10, the Mountain Lions lost on the road, 3-0. Concord was held to a .073 attack percentage and 22 kills. Lindsay Maddox led the team with eight digs while her teammate Brooke Heck had six kills and earned 7.5 points, both leading Concord. The Mountain Lions are much better at home than on the road this season, as they hold a 6-2 record in Athens. Brooke Heck leads the team with 210 kills and 2.76 kills per set. Casey Mandeville has 440 assists which leads the team. Lindsay Maddox has 360 digs this year.
Noting the Cavaliers: UVa-Wise has struggled of late, losing seven consecutive games and in that span they have won one set. At home on October 3, the Cavs lost to Concord in three sets and had an attack percentage of .065. Briana Kerr had 15 digs and her teammates Eustaica Smith and Ciara Kain each recorded 10 points. Against Emmanuel College on October 7 in the afternoon, the Cavaliers were swept and did not score higher than 16 points in a set. Makayla Ledford led the team in kills with six. Also on October 7, North Greenville swept the Cavaliers as UVa-Wise had a .057 attack percentage. Ciara Kain led the team with 11 kills, 12 digs and 11 points. Ciara Kain leads the team with 217.5 points and has over 100 more kills than anyone else on the team (201). Kain is seventh in the conference for kills per set with 3.65.
